Drinking alcohol while on Imbruvica

Great to come across this website as I too am on Imbruvica

I started two months ago after unsuccessful chemo. I am on three tablets a day and so far no side effects

I have drank alcohol since I started, but if I get the okay to travel for a holiday, I was wondering about having a glass of wine with meals.

Did you mean to say you haven’t had alcohol since you started Sunshine. Otherwise I’m confused but interested in the answers you’ll receive.

Have you discussed this with your specialist?

Best wishes,

Newdawn

Hi Needs an, no I never discussed it with anyone up to now, I just took it for granted not to drink alcohol while on any medication, that was until I came across this website by chance

I was never really what you would call a drinker , just a glass of wine with meals once a week. I will be going back for check up in two weeks time and will ask then and hope they give me ok to take holiday because is of now I was not allowed to travel and icing on the cake will be okay for a glass of wine on holiday. Thanks for your reply

This was discussed on here recently Sunshine and many people on Ibrutinib do seem to have the occasional drink without any problems. I’m about to start Ib soon and have been told it’s not an issue as long as it’s in moderation and my kidney function is good.

Have a lovely holiday and a warm welcome to the site! 😊

I have been on Ibrutinab since December and have some alcohol. No issues felt. my bumbers have gotten better. WBC's 225,000 to 125,000 in 2 months. Other levels improving as well. I would rather have a toast than be toast. Pot is also recommended. Either way, time to detune and be blessed for all the care and love that is spread around so more days are coming.

I've been on ibrutinib for 10 months now and am under NO restriction with alcohol. In fact, when I started, I asked my doc and he said "I can't think of a better reason to drink!" (He quickly added he was kidding and encouraged more moderation than usual.) One thing I've noticed is I often have no desire for alcohol which surprises me as I've always enjoyed a cocktail at the end of the day and wine with dinner.

No problems here with a glass or 2 of wine while on Ibrutinib. Even a few more beers than that if spread out over a while with a fishing rod in hand has been OK.

Other than the fact that all alcohol is poison I see no reason while on Ibrutinib for further moderation. Your intake is minimal in any event. Some take alcohol for three weeks in the month and then nothing at all for the last week allowing your system to recover. I have been on Ibrutinib for seven years and found that I felt better by cutting it out save for a glass of wine to be sociable on birthdays, Christmas etc. My advice would be, irrespective of your CLL treatment, to treat the intake of poison with respect and when imbibing, if wine is your thing, have something special not supermarket plonk preferably red. You do not have to pay the dizzy prices of Petrus, there are vineyards next door run by the same family that will sell decent Pomerol for fifty pounds or so available from Berry & Rudd or similar.

I've been on ibrutinib for five years and have a glass of wine at night with dinner and have had no problems from it.

I was on Ibrutinib for 4 1/2 years and had red wine every night and have continued while taking Venetoclax. Early on I asked my Dr if that was a problem and she said "all things in moderation". I was sure not to ask her to quantify what "moderation" meant! Enjoy!!

Thanks for that information, keep well.

My doctor recommended no alcohol while taking ibrutnib. While not a big drinker, made sense to me as to limit other drugs putting into my body to allow treatment to do its thing without any potential interference. Drinking one glass of red wine with your dinner meal has been documented to have anti-cancer benefits. Check out benefits of reservatrol .

I would run it by your doctor; however, I have a glass of wine 4-5 times a week. Stopped when I having liver enzyme issues (unrelated to Ibrutinib or drinking), but now back to doing it with no issues. BeckyL USA
