Fascinating study Dennis... thank you... I wonder if MRSA has a similar mechanism of action in CLL, where strep is one of the top causes of death in CLL

Very interesting report, thankyou. My husband has had sepsis five times in the last ten years. It is certainly not a good place to be. As a carer it is very important to recognise the symptoms and act quickly. My husband has been in five different hospitals with the dreaded sepsis. The reason for that is that we have usually been away on holiday when the symptoms have arisen. In retrospect I suppose interesting to see how each hospital has dealt with the problem.

In the UK McMillan nurses made a dvd about 6 years ago which they circulated to every A and E department in the UK where they urged staff to watch and take note. So why does UK have approx 30,000 deaths per year from the problem?? good question. The dvd is called "An unnecessary Death". I don't know if it is still on You Tube. hazel

Hi again, apologies upon checking You Tube the film is no longer shown, however you will find several documentaries showing the problems which can occur with terrible consequences.

That was such a good film. I believe I saw it through a link here. I wonder if there are other ways to get it.

Thanks, Neil. I'm glad didn't know, when I dealt with sepsis, what I know now, and what his film points out. My ER ignored me for three hours after I was taken to the back. One of the experiences that has taught me to become an aggressive patient when necessary.

Thankfully the NHS are now much more proactive about sepsis detection and treatment but there’s still much more to do as my experience demonstrates.

The NHS now have the Sepsis Commissioning for Quality & Innovation (CQUIN) indicator which was introduced in 2015. I know paramedics who have received in depth training so it’s very much on the health radar.

Unfortunately I’ve had to take out my personal and family experience of sepsis when I noticed this is an unlocked post.

Best wishes,
