Unpleasantness , apologies in advance

I have severe diarrhoea since the day before yesterday. Very mild cramping and nausea. No appetite to eat , sipping water to keep hydrated . My body aches. I don’t think I have a fever but getting goose bumps now and again. A funny pus filled ‘thing’ on inside of my eyelid...definitely not a stye as I have had them before. I may have gotten an insect bite at a city farm a few days ago. My question is should I be worried ? Had my 4 monthly check up with CLL specialist last week . WBC rising slowly and neck nodes slightly bigger . He ordered an neck specific MRI which I had done last Sunday . He is now away for 3 weeks. Any advice welcome ...feel as weak as a kitten .

Is there a primary doctor/GP you could consult Emerfly? I’d most certainly have the eye checked out in case you need antibiotics or drops.

Hope you feel better soon,

Hi Emer,

I agree with Dawn and perhaps get some Dialight ? Spelling ? Helps replace the salts your body is losing.

Wishing you well.

You certainly have a bug or something. Try warm compresses on that eyelid to try and get that pus out......if you spike a fever, I suggest you go in....

After 15 years without a serious illness, thanks to IVIG, I developed similar symptoms (not the eye though). No fever, except for a low one on one day, but I felt miserable. I had an appointment with my hematologist the day after things started. He ran every test imaginable. Conclusion, some kind of flu - not type A or B, not pneumonia, which I was afraid it was. Get checked, especially the eye!

No fun, poor you. Stick some electrolytes in your drinking water

Thank you all for your replies . Rang my doc , a gastro virus doing the rounds so bed rest, proximity to loo and keeping hydrated advised. The eye thing popped spontaneously yesterday so I’m assuming it’s ok now. Feeling a bit stronger today. My family have rallied around as I’m my 93 yr old mother’s carer . Elderly patient trying to be nurse is highly stressful ! We are being well cared for . I think having CLL makes us worry more about every little bug we pick up. Had become a little less vigilant when out re hand sanitizers so will have to take more care .

The virus has hit here too, partner very ill with it, he is staying hydrated but that dioralyte tastes foul. However needs must. Wonder how many have this virus in the UK, the hot weather does not help.

Hoping it soon stops, for all who have succumbed.

Sorry to hear your partner is ill ...it’s a miserable dose . To be honest I was relieved that it’s a virus only . CLL makes one inclined to catastrophise ! I’m on day 4 , saturday just felt exhausted and bloated then it hit me like a ton of brinks very early Sunday morning. Yesterday was my worst day and was almost ready to give into my daughters and go to A&E . Better today but still not out of the woods (or away from the loo!) and my darling mother keeps telling me that I needed to lose ‘the’ weight 🙄 !!

Hi Emerfly

I sincerely hope that by now things are improving for you. My partner’s started Saturday and it is only this morning that there is a cessation of activity after 4 days of loperamide and dioralyte.

Honestly we were beginning to wonder how long it would last. He has advanced prostate cancer, and a dead bone in the hand which gives him lots more pain, so he is most probably run down giving the virus a field day. Most probably your cll is why you have been so poorly. Despite my cll, I was only very sick one day, and looking after him I found a rare burst of energy and had a better work out than I used to get in the gym.

So lots of sympathy from me to you and hope this upset is soon behind you.

Thank you Bubnjay , today is a better day and managed some toast which so far is staying put . You sound like you have way more than your fair share of health issues between you and your partner. It’s not always easy caring for someone else when your own health is compromised . Perhaps you will have to take turns and loving someone helps. My 93 yr old mother moved in with me almost six months ago...she had to be rescued from herself and an alcoholic brother who was neglecting and financially abusing her. She was hospitalised with malnutrition , dehydration , infections from poor hygiene, pressure sores . I’ve nursed her back to reasonable health given her age and today she is angry because I won’t agree to my brother moving in to look after me !!! (I’d rather stick needles in my eyes) My daughters and niece have been fantastic , someone here every morning and early evening to make sure she is fed , medicated and I’m ok . They all have small babies so can’t be here 24/7 nor would I want them to be. Oh dear sorry for off loading ...what I really just meant to say is that I’m glad your partner and I are in the mend . Feel better getting it off my chest though so thank you .

Sending hugs to everyone struggling with the heat or life in general.

Unfortunately this humid weather is perfect for circulating those nasty little bugs

Less hours for me in the summer months with school out, still working but less. I intend to make the most of it, see lots of the grandchildren and walk plenty.

My daughter is re locating to Abu dhabi to teach for two years, this makes me sad. She keeps me grounded and is my CLL buddy, the voice of reason when the brain (what’s left of it) goes into overdrive.

Hope everyone recovers soon.

Thank you Peggy Sue and sad for you that you are going to be without your daughter/CLL buddy for 2 years . I was heartbroken when one of mine moved to New Zealand and fell in love with a local. Happily she came home after two years (without the local !) and lives nearby with her lovely husband and two adorable sons. It’s tough letting go, especially when CLL can make you vulnerable . I wish you courage .

Hi Emerfly and you too Peggy

I hope that you are totally over the nasties Emerfly and that you and Peggy are now as good as we CLLers get.

Though sorry for all the folk who start their holidays now school is out in the U.K. I have to admit I am so enjoying the coolness we have now, one extreme to another. With my broken body temperature thermostat I was feeling really unwell in that heat, and kind of dreading it’s return. Happy medium would be nice. How you worked in that Peggy I do not know.

Perhaps you will have an opportunity to visit your daughter Peggy, but we cyber mates will be here for you when you need us.

Hope you managed your family situation Emerfly.

Best wishes and hugs
