A friend of mine has just been diagnosed with Essential Thrombocythemia a blood cancer, (or pre cancer). Does anyone know how, if at all, this relates to CLL or other blood cell mutation diseases? and what and when treatment is appropriate, beyond the usual W & W period.

Sorry, but it doesn't relate to CLL. ET is an over production of platelets... it can, but very rarely, become AML

My mother had essential thrombocythaemia at the same time as I had CLL related ITP. She always wanted to give me some of her platelets! At the age of 88 she had an intra-abdominal bleed probably related to the poor quality of the platelets, but died of ‘old age’. John
