Green tea
Be careful...too much EGCG in green tea can harm the liver. I was going to take them until I did the research.
Over the counter pills are not recommended by the doctor that did the Mayo study, because nobody knows what is in them, and new studies from China and India, indicate high levels of banned pesticides in green teas.
You can hear his views here...
My husband drinks the decaffinated green tea made by Arizona. We get it at the grocery store but the drug store has it also. He thinks it helps him to sleep better. But with the time change he is awake at 3am.

I drink about 2 cups of decaf Green Tea each day. There are lots of antioxidants in Green Tea which are good for all of us. I like the Celestial Seasonings decaf Green Tea with white tea. I also have Bigelow decaf green tea. The decaf process for both is the Swiss Water method. As stated by Lady Di, I would stay away from the pills.
Thank you!
I would echo what PatsPal said, I also drink 2-3 cups of decaf Green Tea as suggested by my CLL Specialist. This works for me as I used to drink coffee. I do take some vitamins but try and obtain as many healthy nutriments as I can naturally so I don't over do them. I know what works for average person on street, does not means it will work for CLL patients. May God bless you.
My first Oncologist, did not believe in supplements or extracts or vitamins. Everything natural. I think that is the best approach. STAY STRONG J.R
I would suggest searching this site. There have been many discussions over the years concerning green tea/EGCG and the possible positive effects, cautionary concerns, and ways to increase bioavailability. For past year I've been taking about 800-1000 mg daily, which if memory serves is about what was the smallest amount of what was given to the four arms of the Mayo Clinic trial). During this time my ALC which had been going up about 40-50% per year for 5 previous years has gone up 10% from 61 to 67.....¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The pharmaceutical grade EGCG was Polyphenon. The dosing in the Mayo trials were... Stage 0/1 patients only.
Biological: Polyphenon E
Phase I Dose Escalation:. 400 mg orally twice a day to 2000 mg orally twice a day
Phase II: 2000 mg orally twice a day
Its inportant anyone attempting this with OTC EGCG that they get their liver function moniotored twice a year...
As I recall, the twice daily oral dose was an important factor... seems most people miss this...

thanks for the memory refresher. I also clicked on the NCBI journal article that reported there were 8 dosage levels in Phase I - like you say from 800mg to 4000mg - with everyone in phase II getting 4 grams per day.
So I'm taking the lowest dosage that had been given in Phase I - 400 mg, twice daily not to mention (why "not to mention" when it always follows a mentioning?) a few extra milligrams from drinking green tea a couple of times a day (but cause I enjoy it & not for the therapeutic effects I might get from the 10 to 15 mgs reportedly found in the brand).
At least that every 6 weeks for the first few months , you would need to take it for 6-12 months to see the benefit
Below is information on Green tea I have posted in the past. See my recent posts as well,
Make sure to work with a Doctor to get your liver panel every 4- 6 weeks to make sure there are no problems. (AST, ALT).
Per your interest in green tea options see the types shown below. Note this is not medical advice and only what I did myself. I am not a doctor.
Please read the Mayo clinic phase 2 study paper as well.

Healthy Origins Teavigo green tea supplements have the most ECGG with no caffeine for the best price ( you can get it on Amazon). Teavigo is also made by another but is much more expensive. The actual Teavigo powder is made by a Japanese company in Japan.
The Now brand is the best value. It has 200 mg of ECGC see but 4 mg of caffeine. I would take 2000 MG (10 pills ) of the Now brand in the morning and then about 1500 mg ( 10 pills ) the Teavigo go in the early afternoon. Papers have shown one gets the most amount of ECGC if you take it on a empty stomach but in the clinical trials the stop that for possible stomach problems.
I would also drink about 6 cups of strong green tea a day to give an additional 500 mg of ECGC. Surprisingly the basic Lipton and even the Decaffeinated Bigelow tea had a fair amount of ECGC see at about 80 mg a cup. I happen to really like the Rishi brand "Matcha super green" from a flavor standpoint They are out of Milwaukee, WI . It said in the consumerlab.com Report that the nylon tea bags takes out part of the ECGC. I also drink it from Raw tea so the nylon bag is not involved. I just use a loose tea holder. You can buy it in raw form as well. Pure Matcha super Green tea is good but I get tired of it after a while. Depending how strong your tea is it can give somewhere between 60 to 120 mg of ECGC.
I found these through the consumerlab.com website that I joined. It cost about $40 per year but they have a very good articles on all supplements.
I would also taking high-dose ECGC with Curcumin every other day but that increased my ALT liver panel so I stopped. The paper from the Mayo clinic on combining it is only done in vitro - in a lab. So I would stick with green tea only.
In the Mayo clinic paper the people got good results over all although 4 eventually had to get treatment per the paper. The green tea seem to help for my CLL but unfortunately I have a very strong version. 17P deleted. I have trisomy 12 as well. It gave me more energy as well.
I was diagnosed a year ago but will start treatment within the next few weeks. A targeted therapy clinical trial combining Ibruvica and Veneticlax. My WBC counts have rose from about 10 to 90 over the last year. I have a rather large swollen lymph nodes as well.
Make sure to work with a Doctor if you go to high doses.
Be well,
Hoffy
After reading about the Mayo Clinic study I took green tea capsules for several years, and noticed no effect on my CLL counts, but kept on them in hopes they would slow flipping to acute. However, my husband, who has brain cancer, decided to take them, and it negatively affected his taste buds and food tolerance. We thought his chemo was related to the problem, and several oncologists tried unsuccessfully to find the reason his tongue was so sensitive without success. Then one located a study that mentioned green tea altering the cells of the tongue so that they perceive more bitter taste and peppery hot sensations. He quit the green tea and the problem went away, food tasted normal. I quit soon after as well.
