Tongue biting

Ok, this may be crazy, I keep biting the sides of my tongue and mouth since starting FCR. I have bruises and raw spots. This mostly happens at night but also during the day. Anyone else out there ever have this problem?

Has the stress of treatment caused you to grind your teeth at night or chew on your cheeks or tongue?

Continued: slight bites/abrasions. I was prescribed “magic mouthwash” which works well. Since my CLL came out of remission last year and starting Imbruvica the mouth ulcers and slow healing returned. Got another “magic mouthwash” prescription for it. I had a crown with a rough edge that caused abrasions until it was replaced. I have have a tendency to chew too enthusiastically causing bites so have to chew carefully.

Ask for magic mouthwash prescription 🌞

I have done that with imbruvica as well. I guess it is from some swelling.

I’m taking imbruvica in conjunction with the FCR (part of a clinical trial), it could very well be that.

I don't know if my experience feels familiar for you. When lots of cells were dying and sloughing off during the early months of my Ibrutinib journey, I had lymphedema. In addition to swelling of ankles, my tongue would also feel swollen. It felt too big for my mouth, and I would sometimes bite the edges when eating or talking. Visually, the edges of my tongue seemed to undulate, with a wavy edge. Is it possible that this is part of your problem?

If you are having mouth sores, you might try putting a couple drops of Oil of Oregano on your toothbrush when brushing your teeth. The antimicrobial effect of the oil helps combat and heal sores. If this doesn't help, you could also try a mouthwash made of 1/3 hydrogen peroxide, 1/3 purchased mouthwash, 1/3 water. I keep a jar of this mixture on hand just in case.

Thanks, it could very well be that my tongue is a little swollen. The only sores I have are where I have bitten myself! I’ll try the suggestions you gave me. Thanks so much.
