Swollen Cervical lymph nodes on my Neck on left side at level 5.

Severe pain in neck movement.

After Ultrasound Doctor wants Cervical Lymphodenopathy.

Excisional Biopsy.

I am not agree for this.

What will happen?

Hi Ashraf82,

I presume you don't have CLL? If you did, treatment would shrink the swollen node.

Have you sought a second opinion?

I haven't taken a second opinion.

Two doctors told me for biopsy.

One by removal of lymph &

2nd by FNAC.

Can you give an opinion. Please.

Sorry, I'm not medically trained. I would also warn you against taking any advice from anyone - even if they claim to be a doctor, unless they physically examine you and assess your medical history, etc.

Doctors are the best judge after reports n History.

I have only one daughter only, no sons that's why worried if the treatment process goes long.

I am almost 68, retired Mechanical Engineer & now jobless. No means of Earning.

Instead of Fine Needle, ask for a Core Needle biopsy and have at least 4 or 5 samples taken from various areas of the same node. Less invasive than complete removal, and more accurate than fine needle as the core needle samples are larger. Either way, have the sample taken as it is the only way to be s=certain you have either CLL or SLL or some other form of lymphoma in that swollen node.

According to your you seems to be good doctor or a well qualified Medical expert. A very fine idea you gave me. Well done.

I heard that if needle is inserted in node the inside liquid comes out & if it contains malignancy cells the disease spreads very fast. Is my apprehension is rt. or wrong ?

Your information is wrong. The needle biopsy DOES NOT cause the cancer to spread through a hole where the needle went in. It is less invasive than having the whole node removed, and if they take 4 or 5 samples from different areas of the same node, then they should be able to see if any malignancy is there.

A core needle biopsy is normally done with guidance by ultrasound, so the doctor can see where the needle is within the node and can take the samples from differnt areas.
