My grandchildren have recently received oral flu prevention which is live. Anyone any idea how long I need to wait before I can safely be in their company? The practice nurse says 24 hours. The internet suggests 2 weeks and my CLL nurse specialist does not know.

Check the CDC flu website, I recall it is two weeks...
As this states it takes about two weeks for protection to occur ... which leads me to believe a child would be contageous... for this period.
I'm sure an immunologist would have an answer

Thank you Chris I will defenately do that.

Hi Chris and anyone else who is interested. Just checked this site. It does take up to 2 weeks for the live vaccine in children to work fully. In relation to immunocompromised people it uses the example of people having completed bone marrow transplants it suggests, if I am reading it right, 7 days. Thanks again Chris very helpful.

I have CLl. W & W. No treatment. Staying with my daughter and grandson. He is getting round of shots next week. Does this apply to me too?
Thanks.
I am still on watch and wait but borderline treatment. I believe at this stage our immune systems are vulnerable but not compromised? I had conflicting messages from the practice nurse and my CLL nurse did not know which is why I posted. Perhaps your nurse specialist will be more informed? Let us know.
Regards
Ann

Watch and wait does not mean that your immune system is not compromised. Have you had your IgG tested? I believe that this applies to all of us. Again, as Chris said, an immunologist would probably know, but I would rather err on the side of caution than end up with something like shingles. If you are around your grandchildren, I would be very aware of any changes in how you feel!
Thank plenum I am awaiting my Immunaglobin results so am erring on the cautious side.
Kind regards
Ann
