Prevention from Flu and Colds - anyone used this?

I was researching how to avoid germs on a flight and I came across mini personal air supplies. Has anyone used them and had success? They claim to operate by emitting negatively charged ions into the air. These ions attract positively charged ions, which includes things like allergens, dust and bacteria, and causes a bond to form between them.

Once this bond is formed, the particles become heavier than normal. This weight increase causes the bonded particles to fall to the ground. The testimonials all seem to rave about them. I wonder if any of you have used them? We are going on a cruise the end of February and I bought one for my husband - did I just throw my money away or can they really help?

It's called a Wein Minimate air supply. amazon.com/Wein-Minimate-AS... but there are lots of similar ones as well as full sized ones you use at home. I think the main types of air purifiers are Hepa and the Ionizers. I heard about it on an allergy board and then found lots of comments about similar items on Trip Advisor. Seems like it could help so we will put it to a test since on a cruise we took earlier this year landed him in the hospital with a mysterious lung infection. We have one coming up end of February.

I like many promote the use of First Defence made by Vicks- a nasal spray available in UK supermarkets etc. Cheap.

Basically that first sign of a cold and it’s 2 squirts up the nose. It supposedly stops the gremlins getting from the nose to the throat.

But travelling.

I use it on flights. Once I sit in my seat on the plane I give a quick squirt up the nose regardless of cold or not. Even my “healthy” family use it.

15ml so allowable at security.

I’ll be on a plane for 17 hours soon and it will be used a couple of times during the flight.

Enjoy your holiday.

There is no real proof that these things work at all. Just another grouptaking advantage of those who are desperate. If they worked, do you not think the medical community would have recommended them to you?

Your best defense is to wash your hands often and keep them away from your face.

I used to get sick after being trapped in flying machines that circulate poor air quality and germs. Since wearing an N95 surgical mask when in congested airports and planes, I no longer get sick. May not be the most attractive device, but it works.
