Hi Trumpbutt,

It's obviously impossible for anyone on here to give specific medical advice apart from advising you to see your doctor about this. You've been so unlucky to have autoimmune hepatitis too as it's quite rare and must be difficult to treat with the required immune suppressant treatments when you also have CLL.

In honesty there doesn't seem to be many reported established links between AH and constipation as a side effect but it's obviously becoming a real issue for you and a concern. I've no doubt you've tried all the usual methods to relieve it including plenty of water. Regular use of laxatives can exacerbate the problem.

I've read that liver damage can cause a number of changes in bowel movements, and typically, these symptoms present in one of three ways. You may experience constipation, symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, or changes in the color and makeup of your stool. However there's a thousand and one reasons for constipation and most are transient and not sinister in any way.

Please consult the specialist who deals with your condition and I hope you manage to get this sorted soon as it must be very uncomfortable and worrying for you.

Best wishes,

Newdawn

Hi trumpbutt

I cannot give you the answer you are looking for, but a suggestion to deal kindly with your constipation is, drink sufficient fluids and eat 2 or 3 dried figs a day. This has worked for me and others to get us back into a normal routine without using drugs.

Best wishes

I hope by now that you have resolved your constipation problems... If not, I'd like to suggest you try something that is very simple but highly effective. Some time ago, when I had always been irregular, I started to eat Papayas from Walmart. They are now my every or every-other day supplement (they even have supplements pills for papayas)... the fruit is tasty, easy to eat, and does a wonderful job of keeping you regular... the pulp gives such a simple aid to your system... I will never be without them... they make my bowel system so health, no gas, easy movement... a natural blessing. I suggest you give them a try. :)

Not what you're looking for?
