Lung and respiratory tract infections

Nearly three weeks ago, my family practice doctor said I was one day away from having pneumonia. He put me on some antibiotics but the recovery has been longer than ever before. Is this long recovery due to my CLL and has this long recovery time from an illness like this happened to anyone else?

Napa

Respiratory infections are common with cll due to the compromised immune system.

You will find it does take longer to recover from things.

The vast majority of us have experienced this unfortunately.

Hi napa, I'm unfortunately been subject to a number of chest infections culminating in a very severe pneumonia and sepsis in March this year. It took me some months to feel fully well again and I'm pretty sure my immune compromised status was implicated. Keep an eye on your chest infection and don't hesitate to go back if problems persist or deteriorate. Pneumonia is one of the biggest killers of CLL'er's I'm afraid and we need to be vigilant with all respiratory infections and act quickly when they develop.

Looking back, there's some very useful information contained in this previous post;

Hi napa. Until a couple of weeks ago, I was extremely healthy (CLL diagnosed 2010) but a recent head cold has really laid me low. I guess it might be the start of a decline?

It doesn't have to be Netty. There's been some pretty hefty cold bugs around and I know some usually very healthy, non CLL'ers floored by them.

Hope you feel better soon and enjoy Christmas.

You may be right Newdawn. I'm getting there - hopefully.

Happy Christmas and thank you for all the help support you have given to us all.
