Well, this news item is quite timely I think.

Something I've been wondering about is touched on by this news item on BBC reporting on a Which? test.

Hi Rob

just a wee tryp then, loved the chin/shin, gave me a big smile. Safest by far is use sun cream, but be very aware of the amount of time spent in the sun. It really is better safe than very sorry. Malignant melanomas kill if undiagnosed quite early.

Hi Bub, I totally agree with your comments (including the tipo) , however, it seems to be proven again that buying the costly stuff doesnt always get what you want. I've been using an SPF50 non-greasy spray under a 'factor 40' shirt and head covered by Tilley hat.

Plus avoiding the direct sun this last couple of days at heat of day. UV rating peaked around 3.0 in my garden Saturday and Sunday, sitting in shade rather than working in sun ..... like it!

Timely warning here in the UK Rob and something that's of great concern to me who now views the sun with the same enthusiasm as an encounter with a rabid dog! I appreciate I need the Vit D however.

I bought some very high factor, good brand name suncream recently, Factor 50 and it was frankly awful and made me come out in a rash. It dried like out of date calamine lotion and flaked badly. So for me expensive isn't always best. Here's the Which results;

Stay safe everyone and pale is definitely still interesting!

You are right Newdawn, just been working in the garden, in dappled shade under trees. Came in for a cuppa and noted my weather station already reporting a UV of 2.0 (it reached 3.0 Sunday and Saturday), which is high for where I live.

Not that this is a recommendation, purely for your info I use Garnier Ambre Solaire, Clearprotect + SPF50. Reason for picking it over others is that it is an non-greasy, and I hate the greasy stuff on my clothes.

As a morris dancer I'll sometimes have to be in the sun for 3-4 minutes in a dance. in summer and I spray that stuff on before putting shirt on. Just checked my spellings there to avoid embarrassment, well above being a morris dancer!!

Tea done, back to the garden, stay safe all,

rob

PS: Just thought, for anyone who does not know about UV ratings (and I'm no expert) I base my understanding largely on this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra...
