Erythropoietin (popularly known as EPO) and perhaps Filgrastim may be familiar drugs to those of us that have needed treatment to bring our blood counts up. Below is an interesting article about Amgen, the company that makes these drugs and how our newly elected Prime Minister (who hasn't appointed a minister for science, breaking an 80 year tradition), is advertising this company on his lycra during his Pollie Pedal charity fund raising event.

The article also provides some insight into the life expectancy of pharmaceutical companies, biopharmaceuticals vs small molecules and the typically small catalogue of big selling products of some of the large companies like Amgen.
