Research into immunotherapy—using a patient’s own immune system to fight cancer cells—has been developing quickly. So how do these emerging approaches work in treating CLL, a disease that suppresses the immune system?
Dr. Brian Koffman, interviews Dr. William Wierda, clinical medical director in the department of leukemia at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, discusses current immunotherapy research as well as developing strategies to help strengthen the immune system in CLL patients. -
A good view of the immune system disfunction we all suffer with and towards the end they stress how this leads to other diseases and secondary cancers.
Very interesting discussion. I suspect new discoveries into how the immune system is disregulated in CLL will help far more people than just the CLL population. It's frustrating how slow our understanding is developing in this area - good to know it is being worked on.
