Studies about Biliary Atresia

It is known that neither Kasai procedure nor liver transplantation is a permanent cure of Biliary atresia. And medical treatment is also very limited (URSO, some antibiotic to prevent Colengetisis etc) and they are also not cure. Liver keeps suffering most of the time. I know first sentences may break your hearth and maybe makes you feel worse. But as parents, we have to approach with more realistic view and try to follow/support all the updates and studies about this desease. Because most of the GI's even do not follow the studies because this desease is very rare and they dont have more than few patients. They focus on more common deseases.

My question is do you follow any study or anything about curing/treatment of Biliary Atresia. Do you think there is a possibility of a medical cure or an alternative operation (maybe with bioengineering?) in short/mid term period?

I think as stem cell research progresses that maybe in 20 years they'll be able to grow a new healthy liver with billiary structures to transplant into the children and adults whom are post Kasai.

I think they do stem cell transplant in liver in India. I think they did a study of sheep in a certain country that were getting biliary artesia’ I read it a long time ago. Makes you wonder if it’s related to food/pesticide or just anomalies.

I know crop pickers are more likely to have children with genetic defects.
