Poop color and bili levels

Hello ,

My son’s poop color was light yellow as seen in the pic . This was when he was on 80% formula as the doctors thought it was breastmilk Jaundice..

when he had breastmilk the poop color was more yellow. His bilirubin levels were both under20.. 18 for total and 13direct. And after 4 days his total dropped to 13.7 and direct to 5.8. My question to the doctor was how did the bilirubin levels drop if the bile wasn’t draining.. doctors said its coz he was on Saline.. it didnt make sense to me but is it possible for bili levels to drop by almost half if the kids has BA. He has already been performed surgery but for some reason i felt it wasn’t required..

Was anyone in the same boat ? Please help!

Hi my baby was diagnosed about three months ago I felt the same way at first but I realized that the only one that can really make the diagnosis is the surgeon because they have seen the inside of him so I have no choice to believe now... those levels are still pretty high for an infant. Does his eyes appear yellow? My baby bili fluctuated for a while but never went down to normal range.

His levels went down after surgery but since couple weeks they have been going up . Am really getting worried. Is it common to have fluctuations in the bili levels. Are there any chance of the levels coming down later inspite of going up couple times.. .

Dear Mk11,

I hope your child and family are doing well. I have been searching trying to find an answer in a very similar scenario without luck from my liver team. The Bilirubin levels when down drastically after the Kasai procedure, but began to raise a month after the surgery. We are at the 2 month mark after her Kasai, but her jaundice returned with yellow eyes and pale acholic stools.

Did your child’s bilirubin levels decreased despite having increased a couple of times?

Like you were when you wrote your post 4 years ago, I’m feeling so worried now. I do appreciate any anecdotal reference you can share for encouragement!

Thanks,

Hi, From our experience, pedia gastro is thinkinh of BA but the poop color is yellow and bilirubin levels and sgot and sgpt are going down without treatment, we are still trying for sun exposure, vitamin d, US report looks normal but they still want to exclude BA hence they want to perform Intra op cholangio, but i refuse as they will perform kasai on the same sitting if as per their judgement it is BA. How does the lab results and US looks like before your baby undergo surgery? were they going down?
