Query for liver transplant

My daughter had kasai at 52 days but seems like that has failed and now doctors are insisting for liver transplant. I just want to know the feasibility of liver transplant, does this provide long life to the children? And do anyone know who had survived with LT for last 30/35 yrs ?

Listen. When you get your head round the fact they will die without one and there is nothing u can reverse. That’s step 1.

Step 2.

The wait and worry it will come in time and u wonder why u never pushed for transplant sooner. You may think about living donor.

Step 3. Transplant and recovery. They do recover and live a fairly normal life expectancy.

They do thrive and do so well. It will be ok they do recover. Milove forward with positivity and stay off google and join liver mums on fb. You aren’t alone. You’ve got this your little one can be ok.

The proof is our kids. My son has never been better. There’s no place for photos. Thank god we live in a country where transplant s are an option. Quite frankly transplant gives them their life back.

Good luck. Xxxx

If you are at all concerned contact your liver team.

I’m no expert but it might just be swelling from the op or medication related

More sign of a failed kaisai would be jaundice , lethargy , temperature and jaundice and raised Liver numbers contact team if u are worried get bloods done

Good luck xxx

My daughter is 19 now after a transplant at 7 months old. We are never far from a hospital for appointments and she has had a liver infection this year, and many other complications. Enjoy every moment you have with your child and always ask plenty of questions of your liver team, surgeon and specialist nurse about Kasai failure, transplant options.

Follow York mum' advice .

I wish you the best at this worrying time. In answer to your question, yes transplant can be the start of a long and happy life. My daughter is almost 25 years post transplant. She has a full time job, a wonderful husband and a precious son who is 2 years old. She takes medication every day but only has one hospital check up a year. She is now 32 and living a normal life.

Good luck for the future.

Hi,

I would like to let you know that professor Mohammed Rela is great at liver transplant surgery.

He has done my son liver transplant at kings hsp, London, 2014. I was living doner, my son was 6months old now his 4 years old.

His immune system is weak due to medication so when he falls unwel like with common cold or infection it does takes time to recover.

Overall his doing well, have to attend regular monthly blood test and routine checkup & consultantion appointments.
