I was told that the yellow on eyes and skin would come and go cos he still has liver disease even though op was a success.

My boy had his Kasai @ 8 weeks and a week later had sepsis so put everything back. The yellow took time to clear, the main focus from all concerned was his stools which it took a number of weeks but bile has been flowing.

My boy is now 15 months and his last set of bloods showed a normal bilirubin. His liver is still damaged but he is coming along great.

My learning was just challenge the doctors to get feedback but don't over think each day as it will take some time for you to see how successful the operation is.

Fingers crossed for you and your baby. It's a scary time but there is hope as we had been told a transplant was inevitable within weeks of the kasai due to the damage but so far he is exceeding all expectations. Kids are fighters!

Our daughter took 3 months to clear her jaundice (till she wasn't yellow). she is now 12 years old and has her own liver and no medication. She had lots of Cholangitis as a little one and spent most of her first three years in and out of hospital. Try to enjoy time with your little one. I know it's hard cos you are so worried but just know it does take time. Make sure you keep your little one well hydrated and give the medication as directed.

Good luck

Hopes and hugs. X

It's still very early after the Kasai. Your medical team will keep doing tests and advise you all the time. Try to enjoy time with your little one. He will probably stay yellow for a while yet. Make sure you give all feeds and medication at the times the hospital has said. You are doing really well but I know it is a very very hard time for you.

Hope and hugs

It takes time as bilirubin goes down. It's a rollercoaster of a life but these BA babies are strong. My grandson is 1.5 years post Kasai and doing great
