Hiya all,

just to update you all ( if your interested ) i was made to go to the docs yesterday by my family because if you have read my earlier blog you will know about the problems i'v been having with the muscles in my left arm, well its got worse and i am not able to lift anything, i have been taken off my statins 18 months ago because of this problem and must never take them again but as i'v said before the damage may have already been done after many years of statins. My doctor has now advised me to stop taking Ezetrol ( which apparently causes muscle damage as well ) for 2 weeks then go for a blood test, if it comes back that that their is a problem then she mentioned having a muscle biopsy, so feeling pretty fed up at the mo

The article I posted for you also says to stop Ezetrol as it can cause the same sort of problems. Even if your blood test comes back with normal CK levels, do pursue the muscle biopsy option, as this article says the muscle damage can occur even without a rise in CK.

I think it is ridiculous that "they" only take notice of CK levels 10 times the normal. Why have a "normal" threshold if you don't take any notice of it.

Hiya thank you so much for your reply :-) it's good to know people know where i'm coming from, people sometimes don't understand because you look ok on the outside :-(

Hi,

Keep us all informed. Are you actually allergic to statins, one of my close friends is? I hope you get a better result.

I'm really sorry to hear that you are going through this. To take prescription drugs that are supposed to help make you well and to end up with more illness and pain is horrible. I agree that having a muscle biopsy regardless of CK levels is a good idea. Do keep us posted as I'd like to know how you are doing.

The "Reply to this" links aren't working for me - again! - but replying to Aliwally: the problem with the CK thresholds is that any muscle "damage" elevates CK and if it was set too low, there would be many false positives.

Sorry to hear about ur arm. But I am suffering with my left arm also. I have heart failure. And last year I was diagnosed with raynauds in my hands. But my wrist and the muscle in the top of my arm are more of a problem. I am unable to brush my hair as lifting or using my arm is to painful. I am a left hander ad well so make my life basically not worth even avin. I wud have it amputated today if they agreed. But I just get sent for test after test and never get any answers. Hope U manage to get sorted. X
