Numbers high again

Good morning all. I had blood work done in April and my numbers were in the normal range, on the high side, but normal. I just had blood work done again and my numbers are all high again. Doc took me off Lipitor and put me on Crestor. My weight is down 15 lbs since the last appointment. No side effects so far!

Hi - having glanced through your other posts here on HU it crossed my mind that you may have a thyroid problem :-) Have you been tested correctly ? So many of your symptoms are connected to Low Thyroid ...

I have had it tested, my doctor had the thought as well. It's all normal. My siblings are all very healthy, I told them they are welcome that I took the gene crap pool for them.

It is almost ridiculous at the number of issues I have/had at my age, I feel like a hypochondriac. My doctor assures me I can't be one when there is proof of illness.

Normal is an opinion and not a result :-) Was your TSH under 2 ? Your FT4 and FT3 in the upper quarter of the range - and your anti-bodies TPO and Tg were negative ?? I am betting not ! I have been a member on Thyroid UK here on HU for seven years and if I had a pound for every time a member says her/his GP says normal - then I would indeed be a very rich woman. On further investigation and the CORRECT testing we more often than not find the thyroid can be to blame for many of your conditions. Surely it has to be worth ruling out ... after all no drug required :-)

Before thyroid testing in the very early 70's anyone with a raised cholesterol had their thyroid treated. Blood pressure - both low and high - can be linked to Thyroid. There's a book on Amazon - Thyroid and Heart Failure - all research papers from around the world. The heart is very sensitive to thyroid hormones - both too little and too much.

Low Iron/Ferritin - B12 - VitD - how are your levels - if low then that could be another indicator your thyroid is off kilter - and linked to your heart issues among many other issues. You are legally entitled to have copies of all test results - so you can monitor your own health and check what has been missed. You ,may have some surprises - many do !

Here is what my last results were:

Apr 03, 2018 Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) 1.329 uIU/ML

Apr 03, 2018 Free Thyroxine 0.86 NG/DL

I confess the thyroid thing is very confusing to me.

So you have only had one test done - the TSH. Sadly this is what is keeping thousands so poorly. TSH is Thyroid Stimulating Hormone and is secreted by the Pituitary Gland. It tells the Thyroid to secrete T4 into the bloodstream - this is a storage hormone and does little. It needs to convert into the ACTIVE thyroid hormone T3.

Every single cell in the body - trillions and trillions - have a receptor for T3 - your brain needs the most - followed by the gut and the heart. So if the T3 is low then there will not be enough to go around - a bit like trying to spread a spoonful of butter on a whole loaf of bread :-)

Auto-immune Thyroid - Hashimotos - is the most common thyroid condition globally - so without having tested the Anti-bodies TPO & Tg there is absolutely no way your GP would know.

Your adrenals are your gear-box and your thyroid is the accelerator ! Sadly the NHS rarely do all the correct testing. Private Testing is available in your home and results by e-mail. Thousands on Thyroid UK Forum are forced to do this and it is the only way to know WIGO - What is going on !

Very interesting...I will do some more research and ask my doc to get some more tests ordered.

As I mentioned above you will be lucky to get all the tests done - they have so little understanding. They do not think they are needed. Also they only test TPO anti-body in the NHS. I live in Crete - so easier for me to have the CORRECT testing done. My daughter is currently battling her GP to have more than the TSH tested. BIG Pharma make more money from all the pills prescribed for a poorly treated thyroid ... thyroid pills are cheap !

I wish you luck - read and read as much as you can and pop into Thyroid UK Forum to appreciate how awful things are with testing and treatment.
