Hi - please, does anyone know where I can go privately to be checked for familial hypercholesterolemia?
Private genetic testing: Hi - please... - Cholesterol Support
Private genetic testing
First go to GP for cholesterol test, depending on the LIPID number your GP can do a referral!
Thank you. I did, but there is a point scoring method to get beyone the GP and I was one point down so not enough for a referral sadly.
Hello,
I am sorry to hear this. Well NHS protocol is not helping US.
Please look at this link,
heartuk.org.uk/getting-trea...
Heart UK was long before cholesterol support. There is a phone number to discuss FH testing.
good luck.
Thank you. I had not heard of this website. I will be making calls today.
Heart UK was helping people with cholesterol, promoting statin, Heart UK, used to have yearly 2-day conference. The problem was Heart UK was promoting statin and many members did not like it therefore Heart UK gave up and Cholesterol support was implemented.
Like NHS protocol ,Heart UK had their protocol.
Take care.
I was referred with high cholesterol to our local hospital to see someone before I took statins and he did a family history on me , although nothing came back with the positive with the test that was done at a larger hospital, I still have a large family history of it on my mums side of family, so take statins , my choice in end but a very hard vhoice
I was referred to an Endocrinologist due to my high cholesterol & not being able to tolerate statins. I did have to persist over the years to get to this stage as I was once told I was “too old” for a certain new medication to help lower the levels . Obviously I objected strongly to this reasoning & - wind the clock forward - was again referred to a different specialist . At this stage I was to be tested to see if I carried the gene. I do have Familial hypercholesterolemia, which of course I knew & was put on to a Bempedoic acid medication at long last! Please persist in whatever you think is right for you & ask & ask again to have the test. You can then move forward in treatment.
