Could I take all my blood pressure tablets together ?

I take a diuretic in the morning [ recently been prescribed ] with Lercanidipine,

I then take a beta blocker at night, to spread the load so to speak. Does anyone take all their meds together or is this unsafe ?

Hi bigleg

Thank you for your response, and the links, which are interesting, however there is quite a lot of reading do ! and I will have to go over it again to take more in. I do have some calcification of the heart valve, [ just been diagnosed ] I take Calcichew !! I also have stage 3 chronic kidney disease.

I was recently prescribed the diuretic, for the kidneys and heart. However I have been taking meds for high blood pressure for several years.

I often wonder if taking a diuretic lessens the "power" if thats the right word? of the other meds, by peeing them out.

I do try to read up about my ailments/medications but it can be confusing, as some contradict one another.

thank you

....and I would agree with Traci. Better to ask those trained to know in this instance.

Just to add another thought, for folks reading this who take statins to reduce their cholesterol levels:

1. Always take them before going to bed as your body makes cholesterol whilst you sleep, so this is when the statins are best released into your blood stream

2. Never eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice as this would greatly reduce the action of the statins.

Just a bit of information that might be useful to someone out there reading this.

Hi,

Any medication, it is always better to get advice from a doctor or pharmacist. When there are number of medication involved daily, it is best to list all the medication and then ask the specialist!

Normally medication and water, some people take medication with milk and juice, have read this not a good way to take medication.

Allergy medication and statin, I take them together in the evening before going to bed with water.

Have seen my brother who is 84, (heart issues, stent and now considering valve replacement!) and a medical person, take medication after food in the morning and evening with water.

Thank you all for your reply's.

I wouldn't even consider altering my tablet regime until I saw my GP. I was just curious to know if anyone else took all their blood pressure meds all together? especially if you have to take 3 lots. [ would be nice to take them all in one go, much easier ] I realise now it was a silly question as we are all different.

I also have been on steroids for 14 years so I have those to take every morning. Seems like I'm taking tablets all day !!

I have been taking various medications for 14 years now, so I do have them under control re how to take them. I was just curious.

Thanks anyway.

Hi Bowler, I currently take 3 blood pressure meds - Lisinopril, Amlodipine and Bisoprolol as well as 2 anti-platelets - Aspirin and Clopidogrel all together first thing in the morning. I am about to change and take the blood pressure meds first thing and the anti-platelets after breakfast as they are upsetting my stomach. It is easier to remember when they are all taken together. I am also about to start Ezetimibe as I can't take statins. I have no instructions on when to take them, apart from daily, so will probably add them into the morning medication.

Hi florence 5

It seems that when we are prescribed medication and it say's ie "One to be taken daily" we have to fathom it out ourselves

what time of day to take it, especially when we are taking several different ones, although I was told to take the water pill in the morning for obvious reasons, but saying that I'm up several times in the night anyway due to my chronic kidney disease.

I hope your upset tummy resolves itself after your change.

And another confusion I find is apart from my Lercanidipine which is yellow, every other tablet I take is white so have to be careful when I'm filling up my dosset box, and if I drop one on the floor I wonder which one it is !!!

Thank you for your reply, at least I know that it is possible to take 3 blood pressure meds together.

Isn't life grand ???

Hi again. I think I should clarify my previous comment. I take my tablets all together in the morning following my GP and hospital doctors' instructions and not just on a personal whim. The new tablets I have, which are to be taken 'daily', have further instructions inside which state that they can be taken at any time of day. So taking multiple BP meds all together can be done, but Tina is correct that we should each discuss our meds with our own GPs. I know what you mean about the white tablets. I tend just to take them from the foil packets so that I know which ones I've taken, rather than use a dispenser box. They are so tiny that I can't see what is on them even with my specs!

Regards

Florence

Hello,

There is "silly question", as an engineer and a trainer in IT every question is very valid question!

My wife is showing high blood pressure, home test kit is showing it and also heart rate in the gym machines is also showing high heat rate. A qualified nurse but worked as a word clerk therefore I am unable to contribute to the high blood pressure discussion. Have seen the GP, an appointment with nurse soon and may be a 24-hour heart monitor coming soon!

I am happy to leave it as "NHS" is managing not the Internet discussion!.

In 21C people take many medication, there is a box for Sunday to Saturday to put all the required medication for Am and PM. May be in 20C people only took one or two medication.

At the moment I only take one a day for allergy, some days, statin as well.

Please take care.

Thank you for your reply.

which was the same as most I received above. Like I said before, I wouldn't change my medication routine before consulting my Dr, and my hospital consultant at Addenbrook's Hospital, as I have several ongoing ailments, KIdney disease, Heart valve calcification, and Giant cell arteritis,

I joined this site to share experiences, otherwise no point in asking questions, and I understand that none of us on here are professional., it mentions that when joining.
