Hey everyone! I’m so glad to have a space where I can share my thoughts with others who understand. As a daily commuter on the underground, I often feel frustrated by the stares I receive. It’s fascinating how some people feel entitled to scrutinise my face, creating an intrusive battle within me—should I stare back or look away.
Sometimes, I like to flip the narrative and remind them that I’m a person, not just a young woman to gawk at for their entertainment. I might wink, sarcastically smile, ask “Are you okay?”, or roll my eyes. I call this my “zoo time,” where I feel like a roaring lion on display.
Through these interactions, I’ve realised that people are strange, confusing, and wonderfully different. This has been a significant part of my journey with a facial difference. One day, I hope to publish stories about my experiences, both positive and challenging.
This post inset reaching for sympathy quite frankly I sometimes find that hard to consume. This post is more of the start to me sharing my story and experience. Thanks for this space. Love to all x
