Hi Lyndareynds, carers is a complex matter, some people are entitled to free ones others have to pay. What you get depends on your care assessment of needs. In general carers do not do housework. Meals from fresh are out too due to time factor, I have found the home meal deliveries from Wiltshire Foods good and there are others. M&S ready meals are about nearest to home cooked but you have to shop for them, which carers are allowed to do. As you have COPD I would think cleaning is a health need to keep the dust off your lungs, only my opinion of course, afraid care assessors do not seem to agree. What care you get is very much financially orientated sadly. Don't know your financial situation so cannot advise, but people from council benefits offices can often do a financial reveiw based on your circumstances to check you are receiving all your correct entitlements, worth a try. I wish you luck with getting more help or the means to pay for some. You can fill in a form on line for a reveiw of your care needs to see if you are allowed more help, or call local social services and they will do one on the phone I beleive. x

Hi Lyndareynds, Welcome to this community. I think the advice you have received from katieoxo60 is very sound. It is a minefield out there trying to sort out what carers can or cannot do, and sorting out your level of needs, very much dependent on where you live and what your local council provides. Accessing Social Service support would be another avenue to think about. I would definitely follow up the advice you have been given. Also if you have a local Citizen's Advice Bureau, it maybe worth making an appointment to discuss your situation, they have a wealth of experience and expertise. Generally carer's time is very limited to the basic essentials of health and wellbeing, which won't include housework. In our Pinned Posts section on the right side of your screen there are links to 'Ask the Expert' and 'Care for life expert', if you click on those you can ask them for specialist advice too.

Hope this helps. Keep in touch, we'd love to hear how you get on.
