Hi 1dar

Sorry to hear about your trouble.

However, I see you are contemplating getting your ears syringed?

Please consider that syringing actually 'causes/worsens' T in many people?

There are much safer ways of clearing out the wax,

such as softening with olive oil (slow)

Or, a much quicker way, with ready made soda bicarb liquid, such as Sodium Bicarbonate Ear Drops by Care+, made specially for the ears.

Hi. Please try micro suction and I have had similar symptoms ...there is excessive wax however T will settle down ...anxiety feeds T so be positive

Hi Verma, I actuallly decided to get micro suction done as I was worried syringing might do more damage . So thanks for that information ... I’m hoping my tinnitus will go down when I get it done tomorrow . Stay calm, thanks .. Jenny

Best of luck as T is distressing and make sure you keep still especially if close to the ear drum

Take care 🙏🏾

Yes Jenny, I can get blocked ears all the time and use olive oil monthly, by told by nurse to be more frequent. I now get them micro sucked as I was told stringing can damage ear even more.

And yes the pain and tinnitus spike goes off the scale, but really dont worry, as soon as you get rid of the wax, it goes back to normal

Good luck, hope you can get them done soonish

Hi Paul, thanks for your message. I decided to get some micro suction done tomorrow as I also heard syringing can damage your ear. I’ve had so much trouble lately with my ear, I didn’t want to risk it. I’m looking forward to getting back to normal ... has been an uncomfortable few days. Jenny

All done ... feels much better , has relieved the pressure but still very tender. Will never contemplate syringing again!

So pleased jenny, it's really scary at first, as you think it wont go back to normal levels. It's good you got some immediate relief. It will be tender, especially as your ear has been prodded and had heavy wax. Not sure if you went private (usually £60) but I TOLD doctor I wanted it done through NHS....i get them done twice a year....for free!

Oh and dont forget olive oil, or something you feel will stop the build up of wax....

Hi Paul, when I first had it done it felt great , then a few hours later I was in a lot of pain , but yes .. it was the prodding and poking. I live in Australia and have a very kind ENT , no charge for the procedure today. Mind you, I have given him a lot of my money after 7 operations . I’m not familiar with your health system. I wear a cochlear implant which cost $ 20, Ooo but I only paid about $ 1, 800!

I’m still in pain .. did it take awhile for your ear to settle down? I’ve had a lot of operations on that ear so I’m a bit paranoid at the moment. I’m sure it will settle down along with the tinnitus . Jenny

Australia, and I shouldn't naturally assume all posts are from the UK. For me it did settle down after the poking sorted itself out, but certainly within 2 to 3hrs.

The issue I guess is that 1. You cant compare me with you, it's just a guide and 2. You can't get paranoid (easier to write I guess) as that'll definitely spike your T.

I have other related issues, in terms of TMJ dysfunction and bruxism, which always spike my T. I had a tough 3 days but realised my temporalis muscle was tight....a hot water flannel sorted it only this morning....I dont know about cochlear implants if they help or hinder, but you know what works or doesn't. Give it a day or two, then I'd go back to your ENT if that is a neglible cost and you can afford it

Good luck

Paul

Yes when my ears gets blocked with wax my T gets louder particularly at night. Once I have them done it settles down again.

I`ve had my ears syringed on numerous occasions and never had any problems.

To help prevent a build-up of wax, and as recommended by an audiologist, I now use Earol Spray twice a week - this also helps to keep the wax nice and soft and I now find that my ears do not need syringing so often.

Thanks Lyn, I have had 7 operations on my ear over the past three years so very cautious about who touches my ear. I had it micro sucked which has relieved a lot of pressure. The tinnitus is still high , but hopefully tomorrow is another day! Jenny

Ooh can understand why you are cautious then. Hope your tinnitus quietens down pretty soon. You take care.

Thanks Lyn .. it’s taking awhile , but have to learn to be patient. I wear a cochlear implant but can’t bear it on my head at the moment , it’s all too sensitive . How is your tinnitus ? Do you get it in both ears ? It’s a horrible condition to have , I’m hoping one day there will be a miracle cure! Jenny 😊

Yes Jenny it is and unless you`re someone with tinnitus it`s hard to understand what it does to a person. Yes mine is both ears but I`m ok with mine now - doesn`t really bother me most of the time but at the beginning - nearly six years ago I was almost suicidal.

I acquired a lot of friends who also suffered with tinnitus both on here and at a local support group and being with others who knew exactly what I was going through really helped.

Hope you feel better soon - we`ll keep praying for that miracle cure.

Hi Lynne , just saying hello. I’m sitting at home in lock down , like everyone else around the world ... tinnitus raging as I’ve been sick this week. Had a morphine injection for pain , but had a bad reaction to it. You say you have had tinnitus for 6 years now .... do you wear hearing aids ? I have also felt suicidal and going through a very rough patch at the moment ... but just have to keep going .. take care and keep in touch as it’s nice to support each other . Jenny xxxxx
