Pulsatile tinnitus

Hello everyone, hope you are well!I want to share my experience and find out more.

My pulsatile tinnitus started 2 years ago in the right ear only, I did have normal tinnitus before but i have ignored it.

My pulsatile is manifesting if i lye in bed or place the head in a certain position,or if i bend over.. and disappear if I move the head in another direction. The feeling is like water passing through in rithm with my heart, in this case it is very strong. Some other time is very mild but constant. There is moments is completely gone. I still did not manage to get tested here as apparently it is not a worrying sign.

Sometimes i think I am tense around the neck or that i damage that side doing headstands

What worries me it is the fact that i also ha synthoms that make me think i have poor circulation

Do you know any good private doctor in London?

Get a ultrasound scan to your neck to see if blood circulation s normal. Ultimately by getting your earwax removed should work. It did with me. Same symptoms.

Yes they did not offer to be referred to a specialist, he referred me to get MRI.. Not sure if it is going to be helpful as you are right I should be evaluated by ent first

Could you describe your synthoms, do you exercise? Do you suffer from neck pain? Did you get an ultrasound tgrough nhs? Thanks a lot for your help

The GP can refer you for an NHS ultrasound at the hospital but might take up to 6 months to get an appointment. If you go to Italy get it done there privately. Got my one in Italy for 50 euros. Privately here it's a robbery.I do indeed suffer from back pain for two reasons: looking down on the phone and driving very long hours and I do exercise, so it's a combination of all those.

Thanks, will speak with the doctor tomorrow, i will then decide if I ll go to italy to get everything doneI feel like mine worsen due to neck inflammation or if i have mucus from a cold but not sure to be honest

Interested to follow your journey. I have PT for many years and tried everything.

One thing is for sure, since I have joined this forum my Tinnitus has become louder. That is definitely the proof of how awareness of something makes it more prominent than is. Everyone has Tinnitus, just not everyone is able to hear it... unfortunately for those who can.

Hey hope you are well! I don't think everyone has pt, in fact i didn't have it before and itvis only on my right ear so something must be going on on that side

It is probably not worrying, but it MAY be. I would insist (as much as you can with the NHS) on an MRI or CAT scan. I have had an MRI for pulsatile tinnitus in my left ear and discovered I had a vascular loop. Not important, but other things are. That disappeared when I got a cochlear implant. I am having a CAT scan in two days because the pulsatile tinnitus has now started badly in my right ear. I'm hoping it's nothing but will be happy to know. I am in the USA, so if you have good insurance (I'm on Medicare) you are well looked after. If you don't it's another matter.

Hi Thanks for your reply, i hope you are ok and that is nothing serious..I will try otherwise i ll fly to Italy and get it checked there as here it is too expensive

So would you say mir it is better than ultrasound?

MRI or CAT scan are the best. This will be the first time I have had a CAT scan but I have had MRIs in the past.

When you refervto other things are what do you mean?

Had 2 MRI scans just to make sure. Both referred by my GP through NHS. Both came back with no anomalies whatever. An ultrasound scan is a starting point I would argue, also because a diagnosis can be made whilst the ultrasound is being made, differently from the MRI which takes weeks to come back, but regardless, they are for different kind of diagnosis.

I wish I could get them to refer me to an ultrasound.. To be honest I am traumatised by the NHS, this winter i was unwell for 3 month, they did not offer an appointment but only i telephone consultation, they said that eventually my cough will clear up, well i ended up getting worse, flew to italy to find out i had strep A and bronchitis.. They did not help me despite i was clear with them regarding the fact that i am never sick and never felt that way before

Here in the USA we get all results in a matter of days!

Unfortunately you need to make it sound much worse than it is if you want them to take your seriously.

Hi Blufree,

I've been experiencing something similar for 5 years now. I have pulsatile tinnitus on one side (left only) and it started at the same time as chronic headaches/photophobia/hyperacusis. My PT sounds very similar to yours with it only happening in some situations like bending over or lying in certain positions. It sounds like a wind noise within my ear, in rhythm with my heartbeat.

I also have a lot of tightness in my neck and think it's due to sleep bruxism, which might be the root cause of some/all the problems but still don't know for sure. An MRI scan showed a vascular loop on the same side as the PT but don't know if it's related.

I'd be interested to hear the outcome of your MRI scan (mine was also MRI brain).
