The right meds!

TheCoughingGardener profile image

Hi all.

So 16 months ago my surgery decided to change my medication to Beclametasone and Anoro inhalers.

I finally (not seen anyone in Respiratory since 2017 ) had an over the phone appointment with a doctor from the hospital Respiratory team who told me I was on the wrong medication and that I was being treated for COPD instead of Bronchiectasis.

He has now prescribed Trimbow and carbocisteine capsules.

Is anyone else on this combination? Im interested because the doctor said there were side-effects.

I think most of us with Bronchiectasis are given carbocistene or similar to help thin the mucus. I’m not on any inhalers. Are you speaking to a Bronchiectasis specialist or a general respiratory doctor? There’s a lot of difference in their knowledge about Bronchiectasis. GP will know even less.

It says he is an experienced respiratory consultant. Bronchiectasis is 6th on the list 🤔

That’s if you can get to see the GP, even after 3 infections. I was prescribed the inhaler meds by the nurse practitioner.

Sorry but that’s not right. Your consultant should be telling your GP which antibiotics to prescribe for you and you should be issued with a rescue pack to keep at home. Although a lot of people are being refused these by their GP. Bronchiectasis is not COPD and needs to be treated differently. You should persevere with an appointment with your GP and take a name of a Bronchiectasis specialist and tell them you need to be referred to them. They should also be testing your sputum when you have an infection to be tested to check you’re on the right antibiotics. Have you seen a physio to help with expelling the mucus? If not ask for a referral and in the meantime check out active cycle of breathing on YouTube. The Asthma and lung U.K. website has a lot of good info too. Good luck.
