Bronchiectasis, green phlegm and fever

Hi, I wondered if people would be happy to give my their feedback on constant green phlegm. Mine is never clear and there all the time, I have to do clearance most days. I use a Qvar steroid inhaler and try not to take antibiotics. My lungs are sensitive to everything, dust etc. I was at a shielding friends house and there was loads of dust from them sanding. My chest really hurt that night and I had to do loads of clearance the next morning. Two days later and my whole body aches and I have a fever. I was really wheezing but I've cleared most of the green. Should I be speaking to a doc or taking antibiotics?

Make an appointment to see your doctor, green phlegm is indicative of infection.

Hi, thanks. I always have thick green phlegm. I've been told that's just the way it is. That that's normal for Bronchiectasis I was wondering if it was the same for others or if they have periods without it.

My phlegm is normally white or very pale green, and this is what my chest consultant likes to hear when he asks me at my regular check-ups. It went green recently, after catching covid, while fighting coughs on two fronts; the covid rough throat cough and my bronchiectasis cough. Fortunately both coughs got better, and my phlegm is back to my normal.

I cough up green Phlegm every day, Nacsys tablets an effervescent, do that. It is tiring fir me, I am 89 on 1 st March, but so far it has kept me free of infections. Shingles has worn me down, not much energy, be glad to see the back of it.so easily get breathless, just going from one room to another. Hope you get some help soon. Iris x

you should take a sputum sample to your doctor to get it tested for bugs. If you have a fever as well it sounds very much like you need antibiotics.

Ea infection damages lungs further with bronchiectasis so there's a massive case and reason to take antibiotics

You need to have a sputum profile done to check what may be growing in your lungs. Your doctor can arrange this for you.
