Someone must know …

I have felt really unwell, sore lower back, absolutely no energy, fatigued 24/7, insomnia.

went to gp after having covid (thinking long covid), bloods all fine, had an ultrasound on liver and my liver is fine but I have main top and bottom veins that show they are dilated, now going for a CT Scan. What does dilated veins mean with a perfectly good liver??

I'm sorry to hear that you've been feeling unwell. It's good that you're getting checked out, though.

Dilated veins in the liver, even with normal liver function, could indicate some underlying vascular changes. The veins in the liver can become dilated due to a few possible reasons: Portal Hypertension – this is the most common cause of dilated veins in the liver. It occurs when there's increased pressure in the portal vein, which carries blood from the digestive organs to the liver. However, this is typically associated with liver disease (cirrhosis, fibrosis), but it's possible for early or mild cases of portal hypertension to present with dilated veins even before liver damage shows up in other tests. In some cases, veins may appear dilated due to increased blood flow, especially if there’s a condition causing increased demand for blood in that region.

A CT scan will help further clarify the situation by looking at the vascular structures and checking for possible causes of vein dilation, such as blood flow abnormalities or other structural issues.

Given your symptoms, it's important to continue to work with your doctor to monitor things closely. It could be something temporary related to your post-COVID recovery, but it’s good they’re investigating all possibilities.

Have they given you any preliminary thoughts on what might be causing the dilated veins, or are they still looking into it?

oh wow, thankyou Fibro2021 🤗 Thankyou so much.

So far they have said to have a CT scan to see for tumours. Gp was also baffled with good bloods and a good ultra sound of the liver that there’s issues around it.

To be honest I was maybe hoping it was long covid untill it started feeling a little different and soooo exhausted and tired, with what feels like a thumping hang over head all day, the back ache like I’m 90 so now this has cropped up it can’t be.

My next question to you is have you heard of these symptoms before? If so does it not look good long term or am I in for a long haul of tests, scans etc. if it’s not really bad how do I get fixed or live with it.

I’m not afraid of the outcome tbh as I’m a great believer I can’t change it I’ll go with whatever is dealt to me. I do however love to prepare. Thanks for messaging
