Wondering if there is any requirements for having antibiotics, or other medications, before going for tooth extraction or root canal, etc.
I have PSC, Cirrhosis (due to PSC - tea-total), Ulcerative Colitis, etc. so already have a messed up immune system and low platelets.
Would like to make sure I am well informed before my next dental visit.
My hubby (who had auto-immune cirrhosis - AIH/PSC, low platelets) never had antibiotics prior to dental treatment. Only once did dentist ask re. INR/blood clotting. Best to ask your consultant and/or dentist.

This one is a very much "it depends", lol. It'll depend on your own personal circumstances.
However, like you I had PSC related cirrhosis and never had or needed any prophylactic antibiotics before any dental work, nor was it suggested. I think in current times, with the risk of anti-biotic resistance ever increasing, they'd probably be very wary of the consequences of doing this on a routine basis.
By all means do check with your own team next time you have a clinic appointment.
My dentist always asks for my platelet level before he will do anything, pre transplant I bled all over his floor and ended up in a&e after having a tooth out, and it wouldn't clot. He has just written to my transplant Consultant for advice on what to do if he has to take anymore out, I'm now 7 years post transplant. Last time I saw him before transplant I needed 3 fillings and he wouldn't even inject me as I had a low platelet level and was taking blood thinners, no problem as I never have anaesthetic for fillings. You will have to give medical information to your dentist and they will know the procedure .
