Hi every one I’m hoping some one from the uk 🇬🇧 can help I have AIH/pbc. I’ve booked an appointment with the dentist I know for sure I’m going to need at least 2 teeth extracted will I need a letter from my doctor are we entitled to help with cost and is there any thing else I need to know. This is still very new to me. Many thanks & Kind regards Sharon

Hi Sharon, the following page should help you find out whether you are entitled to free or help with paying dental fees. Your diagnosis of AIH/PBC doesn't exempt you from charges BUT if you are on any of the qualifying benefits then you are exempt and you will need to provide proof of your eligibility before letting treatment commence.

Hope that helps,

Not a problem.

Make sure the dentist knows what medication you are on and about your condition. Steroids in particular where one thing they need to know about.

I had 6 teeth out and due to my cirhossis had to get the all clear from my hepatologist, and I had to have them out in hospital in case I bled too much.

Best wishes

Hi Jules, how are you feeling now hun ? I too have to go to oral surgery at city hospital for any extraction. Was there Monday having yet another tooth removed. 🙄. I have special toothpaste from.my dentist i am using but i also have calcium and vit d tablets but i dont think they work as i have osteopenia in my hip and two prolapsed discs middle to lower back. Physio don't help either!. I can't even walk after. Lol xx
