High LFTs

Hi all.I have been having blood tests every 6 months for a few years as my liver enzymes are raised. I had a period of heavy drinking for a few years but stopped it 5 years ago. For the past few years I have only drunk at the weekend...a bottle of 11%red wine which is 8.3 units and 2 vodkas ....never exceeding 14 units. I have drinkaware app on my phone to keep track. Despite all this my L FT markers are still raised. I have had a CT, an MRI and today a fibroscan . All were clear...no scarring , adhesions or cirrhosis. I had no alcohol at all during October and my markers were raised even higher at the end of October. I have another appointment at Hepatolgy in December. I was treated for Breast cancer 10 years ago..no chemo only radiotherapy and it wasn't very serious.

So can anyone help...any ideas? It is beginning to worry me. No symptoms except some weight loss which I put down to reducing alcohol. Thanks for any help or ideas. X

Have they tested for alternative issues such as autoimmune? Having had medical treatment for cancer could potentially have triggered your immune system into acting up and alcohol may be playing little to no role in your elevated bloods.

Are you on other meds, statins and bp meds have both raised my liver enzymes and when I stopped them go back to normal quickly.

No I'm not on any messages that would raise them.

Probably not the Alcohol. The good news is that all the visual and stiffness scans give you the all-clear for serious damage. As already mentioned, autoimmune issues can cause raised enzymes; Hep B and Hep C could also be present. Medications can also pop Liver enzymes.

The enzymes are a way to measure inflammation of the Liver (Hepatitis); there can be any number of causes. Continue on the investigation path, they will rule things out with further tests.

14 units spread over a week is a lot different to a 14 units binge once a week.Alcohol is a drug.

Just imagine taking the max recomended dose of 8 paracetamol daily then saving it all up and taking a weeks worth of 56 pills on Saturday night.

Your body deals with the daily dose but can't deal with the binge.

Not what you're looking for?
