hi everyone, I have cirrhosis but since quitting alcolohol 19 month ago my alt levels have been around 40 I have not had bloods taken for few month until last week and now my alt is 90, nurse said normally due to painkillers which I never take, got to get bloods repeated 6 weeks, any idea why they are raised? Could my liver be getting worse?
thanks

statins are bad for ALT, and some other prescription meds. even some vitamins and herbs u got to be careful with. if u started on some new med or vitamin then stop it and see if it resolved. I have had raised ALT from statins and from some blood pressure meds.
The statins i was put on didn't immediately cause a problem, it was gradual. think I started april 2023 and by November i was feeling really fatigued, got blood drawn and alt was 120 or there abouts. then when they looked back they seen the alt had risen from 23 to 45 in June, 70 by September and then 110 in November. I am in USA so get bloods taken frequently by various doctors. Every tile.u see a Dr here they take your blood.
ALT levels can fluctuate during the course of a day by a great amount. A 60 in the morning could be a 90 at night. (It kinda makes me wonder why ALT and AST are even looked at). Surely they took other readings as well. Since you didn't mention them as worrisome, I would rest easy and consider this a one-off.
They took alsorts of reading but was so much all I remember was my alt was 90 and my calcium and iron slightly low, am not worried just have never been raised since I took bad
