Raised ALT

Hi all

I had a blood test done on the 13/07/18 and the result showed slightly raised ALT of 65. I’m going to have another test done on Monday. I’m a non-smoker non-alcoholic female with slightly unhealthy diet. I’m working on improving it.

Wanted to know if anyone else had raised ALT and what was your diagnosis?

Many thanks

Hiya most of us on here have or have had raised alt levels just so you know yours is really very low and I would love to have that level .. just so you have an idea mine at its worst was in the 400's and at the moment is just over a 100 ..

You may have have a slight infection, but you have a great GP to be investigating x hope you're tests go as good as they can 😊

Hi jojokarak,

Thank you for getting back to me really appreciate it. Your reply has given me some hope. Just to add something I have a family history of liver disease that’s why I’m worried. My mum died of cirrhosis 😔

I need to be on top of things.

Wanted to ask you how did you reduce your ALT from 400 to 100?

Did your doctor tell you what’s causing it? (Sorry if it’s too personal question for you)

Xx

Nothing I could do to get it down it raised because I had a poorly liver and as it gets better it just slowly goes down

Sorry to hear about your mother that's so sad x

Was it a medical condition as to why she had cirrhosis? Because if so I am sure they will be checking you out for the same... And as phoenix has mentioned if none of your other bloods are raised it's usually not concerning x

She got hepatitis first that developed into cirrhosis unfortunately

Alt being a bit high on ita own is not usually cause for much concern . Especially if all other liver panel tests are within normal range. Typically tho in liver disease Alt is elevated higher than AST in non alchol related causes . But I will leave that for now . Talk to your doctor but again If ALT is only a few points above normal without any other raised enzymes Id not worry

Hi Phoenix,

Thank you for your reply.

I’m gonna have full liver blood test tomorrow. My ALT level was high in a general blood test. Let’s see how it goes.

Many thanks ☺️

Hi shersal, my alts consistently around 67, has been for a couple of years now, I was diagnosed with a fatty liver on ultrasound. I've a strange illness thats no doubt caused the fat build up but i've been told my slightly raised alt is probably down to my fatty liver rather than the illness that caused it. If that makes sense? Anyhow as the others have said, repeat testing and don't worry too much. All the best to you. Xxx

My ALT and AST have only ever been slightly raised and at one point were both normal. I was told I was perfectly healthy, in spite of a variety of symptoms. I have early fibrosis due to NAFLD.

Please take it seriously. I went for 4 years with either one or the other or both only slightly elevated and my doctor treated it like no big deal. Some people never have elavated enzymes and end up with fibrosis. Start to eat clean with lots of dark leafy vegetables, no sugar or alcohol. Avoid meds unless absolutely necessary. And avoid processed foods and in particular anything containing corn syrup.

I'm not a doctor and certainly can't diagnose you, but I can say take it as a warning. Even just fatty liver can turn really bad if it's ignored. Good luck!

Hi Shersal,

If it's any help my ALT level was 164 in July 2018. I've since had another blood test and an ultrasound in August. The latest blood results shows 'a significant improvement in all the liver markers' so I am extremely relieved. I'm going to pick up these blood test results today as the GP has printed them out for me so I can compare the August results to the July results. I have reduced them due to stopping drinking alcohol. As you are not a drinker and are worried then I'd still go through with the GP appointments especially as there is liver disease in your family. It's just awful to sit and worry.

All the best.

Hi I had slightly raised alt , it was 57 I went for liver function blood tests and an ultrasound of my abdomen ,and they found that I had gallstones , just had my gallbladder removed. I’m sure you will be fine it’s very nerve wracking to not know what’s wrong but it’s good that your doctor is looking into why the number is slightly raised you will be fine 👍

Sorry for the late reply. Been busy with sick kids. I got my blood test results and they turned out to be completely normal. So my doctor is quite happy with it.
