I been told to lose weight with my nafld but it’s hard for me with my ibs hiatus hernia and gastric and acid reflux I never ever lose my belly fat I researched we can’t lose weight fast otherwise nafld can get worse I read I got to lose at least 7lb or more because I’m 14st but I read just lose weight l-2lb a week
can we take juiceplus or slim fast to ... - British Liver Trust
can we take juiceplus or slim fast to help lose weight with nafld
Losing a few pounds a week is good, remember this isn’t a sprint race, think of it as a long walk and you’re just getting started and your overall weight loss goal is to be found at the end of this long walk, not the start or middle even.
I can’t comment on any weight loss supplements as I’ve no experience of them, but I’d be surprised if any really worked and certainly not over doing some general exercise and improving your diet.
As for belly fat, I had a traditional beer belly through years of heavy drinking which I assumed I’d never get rid of and never really noticed a change in that until my wife pointed it out to me recently that it seems it’s now no longer there.
My stomach now appears to be almost flat and while I now eat a healthy diet, and haven’t drank alcohol in over 18 months, I certainly don’t do any stomach exercises like crunches or such to have helped lose my belly fat so it’s got to be a combination of my diet and abstinance.
What I do add regularly to my drinks and diet is apple which are known to help with indigestion and the burning of fat is apple cider vinegar with mother and I also use kefir which are all great for the gut in general. I’m convinced my now near flat belly is mostly because of my adding these to my diet above anything else.
But that’s just me, this is what I think works for me, you’d need to check with a health professional and ideally a nutritionist yourself if you can whenever looking for advice on diet related stuff, especially with your diagnoses.
I had IBS by the way which I didn’t even know about until an MRI, but I’ve now reversed it and that’s all down to diet. I’m a firm believer that we can cure or manage most of our ills through diet and exercise. Your NAFLD can be reversed with a good diet and exercise.
I’ve never been overweight, but was once diagnosed with an extreme fatty liver with a cap score of over 360, which is now down to 144, all because of my poor diet and heavy drinking. What worked for me in terms of regaining my leg strength as I’d lost muscle mass and suffered with muscle wasting due to my drinking was I’d park my car the furthest away from say the supermarket entrance in a deliberate attempt to get as many extra steps in as I could and it worked and I still do this today even though the strength in my legs have returned, you could try that for helping the burning of extra calories maybe?
Walking is generally considered the best form of exercise and for helping to maintain a healthy weight.
Thanks for replying I don’t drink once in a blue moon and that’s argly ever but I always ate bad food and junk so from what I use to eat 3 weeks ago to what iv started doing for the last 3 weeks I have to applau myself but as for me doing all this and doing exercise videos in the house my belly isn’t changing I’m still same weight and it don’t look like a change have happened so I just feel depressed because of that it’s the ibs hiatus hernia n fatty liver al in one I was gonna buy one then kefir drinks today cz it said gut healthy but im lactose intolerant
You’re doing fine and remember you’re just starting out on this new path to better health, these things will take time and losing weight and especially belly fat isn’t easy and cant be achieved overnight, no matter how much you try and do.
The steps you are taking are the right ones and if you continue doing what you’re dong you will lose weight eventually.
Reversing your NAFLD won’t hinge on you losing belly fat by the way either.
If you can - try looking into intermitting fasting as well, not for losing weight, but for help with digestive and indigestion issues as it may or may not help. Again try and speak to a doctor or specialist first, though.
Grassroots,
What brand of Kifir would you recommend I'm also type 2 diabetes, but under control at present, believe kifir good for this condition also? Regarding weight loss plenty of fiber and protein I have found to be best Low Carb diet.
I don’t remember the brand, but where we live we have a few Eastern European shops that sell a whole range of it I and to tend to buy from there. The supermarkets do sell kefir products, as ever, however, it’s always best to speak to your doctor or a nutritionist first when it comes to diet, especially for those with cirrhosis.
They do kefir in asda I changed my diet big the last 3 weeks since I been told I have nafld and still it don’t look like im losing weight or lost inches of my stomach it cz my ibs and hiatus hernia is affecting me too I got gastricologist app November 20 to see if i need operation on my hernia or at least a ct scan to see what’s going on I don’t think I got cirrhosis the doctor didn’t mention that to me I don’t drink alcohol
You have inspired me with your wise words. I have NAFLD but have never drank alcohol; food has been a problem in not eating meat, low iron deficiency and a good deal of bread. I will start taking apple cider this evening and walking additional steps in the carpark quite a way from the supermarket. Thank you
Thankyou that’s nice of you to say I use to drink alcohol in my teenage years and in my 20s n tha then but now I’m 35 I go out once in a blue moon but now I found out I got this if I do go out k dno what I will drink that’s non alcohol cz I’m not drinking pop either I also got told I’m overweight on my bmi so I got try n lose weight n it hard if u read my posts I put what I got health wise It’s hard
It’s not because of your other issues you’re not losing weight, it TAKES TIME to lose weight. 3 weeks isn’t anywhere near enough time to lose any kind of weight not even by starving yourself. I get you want to lose weight quick and are anxious about your health, but be patient and try and just focus on everything you are doing right which is an awful lot and because of that YOU WILL see results, not immediately, but in time. I know people who have lost over 3 stone in a year through eating a healthy balanced diet, getting regular exercise in and following any medical advise, these people have other health issues to contend with too, but again it takes time. You have non alcoholic fatty liver disease which is 100% reversible and not cirrhosis, which cant be fixed overnight. It’s taken me over 18 months to go from an extreme fatty liver with a cap score of over 360 to now 144 who also had to recover from likely (at the time) decompensated cirrhosis due to my former heavy drinking. I wasn’t overweight, in fact I was massively underweight having went from 13.5 stone to under 11 due to my ill health. It really does take time, the focus needs to be on maintaining everything you are doing to chip away at this which you will succeed with I’m sure.
I’m not saying I’m gonna lose weight in 3 weeks but from me eating every bit of junk going to now not eat takeaways no chips no crisps sweets pop eating meals and proper times not rushing food small portions I thought I would have been showing abit of a difference on the scales and the way my belly looks but it not a change cz I got this ibs hiatus hernia gastric acid reflux that’s what is stopping me losing weight because it’s all fighting against each other that’s I’m waiting on the gastroenterologist
I can see how frustrating it is for you, but again just keep doing what you are doing and you will see the difference in the coming weeks and months. One of the hardest things to achieve is to lose weight. You have to train your body which needs time to adjust, burning fat and muscle is a process that the body automatically puts up a resistance to initially.
I have the same conditions that you do. I am losing weight steady and slowly
One thing that really helped me is that I got an app (my net diary) which allows me to log all my meals and snacks. It allows me to see how many calories I’m having, as well as what nutrition I’m getting from my food. It helps me to keep control of my salt intake, sugar/carb intake etc. I also log my weight on it once a week and have goals set for weight loss which it keeps track of. I’ve found it very helpful.
I eat only fruit, veg, fish, chicken breast, healthy fats such as avocado, extra virgin olive oil, a walnut with breakfast, sometimes an egg, but no harmful fats. I’ve cut out almost all processed food (I do use almond milk, cottage cheese, exhale coffee, some beans, pulses and legumes but nothing with additives. I focus on fresh food. I eat lots of salad, kale, asparagus, broccoli, lots of fresh greens everyday. Bluerries and strawberries every morning with brekkie. I also use lots of salt free seasonings (dash) and I use fage zero fat Greek yogurt to make dips or topping/sauces.
I am very overweight and like yourself I expected to lose weight faster, especially since I haven’t put a foot wrong since getting my results. I only eat healthy. However, while it has been slow, it is coming off and I have now lost 34Kg, (75 pounds).
The app really helps me keep a clear eye on what I’m taking in. I did a healthy version of a taco salad one day and expected it to be quite low in calories and such. When I logged it, I realised it was actually a lot to have in one meal so I adjusted it next time. If I didn’t have that log of information, I think I would be missing out on where I’ve gone wrong in the past. Just some suggestions for you as to what has helped me.
Good luck.
It’s annoying ain’t it if I had that app I would probably go mad if it tells me iv had to many calories when iv argly ain’t much if you know what I mean I thought j was doing good then I think am I I don’t go gym cz j got anxiety I give up my membership and I don’t walk cz k drive I been doing exercise YouTube videos it’s hard cz I go fibromyalgia aswell and gastric ibs and hiatus hernia so my belly just swells out all the time
I have the same conditions as you. It is frustrating. I also hold a lot of fluid in my body as I have kidney disease too. I do walk fit every day, even if my body hurts from the fibro, some days it’s hard to pick my legs up. I have been reading up on body types lately and find that I am endomorph, which often means you stack fat around your middle that’s hard to shift. One suggestion is to trick your metabolism by having some carb free days …. Still count calories and eat healthy but try having a carb free day once a week to see if that helps you burn more fat. I’ve lost a couple of kilos doing that along with healthy eating and drinking plenty of water and the daily 15mins walk fit
