Please try not to worry. The ALT is out of normal range but not much. As I understand it the GGT is not very specific. The reading is high and indicates the liver is struggling with something, but this could really be anything. Possibly something quite short-lived, minor and treatable. I am glad he is booked in for ultrasound. The pain could possibly indicate gallbladder issues. Wishing you both well.

quite possibly. GGT is in the bile ducts.

What is the reason behind him taking the paracetemol every day? Is it the stomach pain or something else? GGT is a very sensitive marker so the paracetemol could be the reason for it or whatever he is taking the paracetemol for.

Hi Kasia, paracetamol is toxic to the liver but so are a lot of other substances. The liver can repair itself and is very resilient but it may need a break!

I would suggest taking some guidance from your GP and they can help interpret the results.

Wishing you and your family the best.

Good morning,

Google isn’t the right place to search for medical answers. I googled mine I had full blown cirrhosis. Have had a MRI and two ultrasounds and nothing was wrong. The liver is strong and can reverse damage done to it untill certain points.

Liver function tests are not a diagnoses but a guiding line in where problems maybe come from. That saying. Pain killers in what form are toxic to the body and so including a liver. But also other things can give high enzymes like smoking, eating to much fatty foods, low fiber intake etc. Try to stop the intake of it, go get an US and try to stay calm.

Google is not a doctor.

I had a very similar GGT reading only to find it was down to high cholesterol which I am working to lower.

my husbands GGT went up to 1500 and his ALP to 500 , like you I was worried sick as they diagnosed him with cirrhosis. Eventually he found out he had gall stones and 3 stones lodged in his bile duct . He has since had the removal of his gallbladder and the bile stones and is fine . Now they are saying his liver is not cirrhotic but has fatty liver . What are his platelets as that is usually a good indication of liver disease. Also my husbands pain was more central than the usual upper right pain . Try not to worry and don’t google as sometimes the information is outdated and is false and inaccurate, take care x
