My partner has cirrhosis and a spot on the liver which is monitored every 6 months. Following an ultrasound, more spots have now been identified and is going for an MRI and blood tests soon. I am very worried and was wondering if anyone has had a similar situation and does this always result in a cancer diagnosis? Thank you.

No, having unusual lumps and bumps show up in 6 monthly scans doesn't automatically mean cancer. Whilst there is a slightly increased chance of liver cancer in a cirrhotic liver most lumps and bumps are entirely benign.
Twice my hubby has been sent for a follow up MRI after his routine 6 monthly ultrasound has shown up new bumps and both times these have been deemed to be some extra dense areas of cirrhotic tissue rather than anything more sinister. He also has a number of benign haemangioma (cluster of blood vessels) and several benign liver cysts.
The good news is because screening happens so regularly any changes are identified quickly enough that any necessary interventions can be put in place very quickly.
Thank you for your reply, it is reassuring. I have been so very worried and upset. Yes, the regular screening is good and we are very thankful for it. I hope everything remains well for your husband. This is my first post, and it really helps to share with others. I will post back with an update. Thanks again, much appreciated.
