Hi, stage 4 decomposed liver here for four years and this is my first post! A few months ago I used to sleep all the time and in the last few months I hardly get any sleep at night. Any advice would be welcome.Thank you!

Hi there. Changes in sleep pattern including a day/night sleep pattern reversal are common symptoms of Hepatic Encephalopathy (HE) which is another symptom of cirrhosis - has this been explored and are you on any treatment? Usual first line treatment for HE is Lactulose normally in conjunction with Rifaximin.

Read more about HE at :- britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

Sleep changes can occur in other conditions too such as if you are depressed, anxious etc. so it's worth chatting over with your medical professional.

Hi do you get any sleep? Ie more in daytime as sometimes being awake at night is a common occurance with end stage liver, are you able to watch telly or keep yourself busy? Or can you not concentrate on your usual hobbies this can be due to HE side of liver disease, thought patterns also change so mention to your doctor as they maybe able to help. You may also be able to talk to a counselling service that should run alongside your medical pathway. Glad you posted you will get lots of support here, and the British Liver trust nurse help line might be worth a call, always good to have someone to talk to x

hi I am exactly the same as you, I had internal bleeding 4 weeks ago and had 7 band on my varices and 3 units of blood and now am lucky to sleep 4 hours , yet am so exausted , am in some tablet called cervidilo to prevent further bleeds and that’s what they putting it down to, yet I take half on a morning which makes me sleep for hours but my night one keeps me awake, so now am fighting my day nap which kills me just to try and get 2-4 hours on a night 🤷‍♀️

I didn’t manage any sleep last night, going to try not nap today and see if that will help me tonight, as I feel like I am wasting my mornings going back to sleep, haven’t been able to attend work in 3 weeks as I am all over the place.
