sorry for all questions

I’m going to see my consultant following my recent ultrasound and due a blood test next week that hopefully won’t have changed much fingers crossed. Is there anything I should be asking should I ask for another endoscopy? The last one in March last year should very small well covered varices.

Should I be asking when I should be looking for a transplant assessment. I’m chins purg A and MELD 46 ? From recent results.

Also I do have polyps that were removed from my bowel non cancerous and now I’m under surveillance for that. Was this caused by liver issues? Sorry for all the questions

If your MELD score is the one you got at the initial time of presentation it's likely to have decreased (improved) with your healthy lifestyle changes and the fact you no longer have any signs of decompensation. I doubt you are anywhere near transplant needy when you have a normalish ultrasound report and again no signs of decompensation.

You need to make sure you have a programme of regular monitoring in keeping with NICE guidelines - 6 monthly bloods, 6 monthly scans a minimum. You could ask about the endoscopy though with no signs of portal hypertension on your recent scan hopefully the risk of varices has decreased.

Are you happy knowing what you should be eating and things to do with keeping your liver healthy? If not you could potentially ask to see a dietician.

Child Pugh A is the least serious end of things, MELD seems high but that may have been your early one when you had some signs of decompensated liver disease.

When we go to clinic we always take a note with us of what meds and doses hubby is currently on, a list of any symptoms or things that are causing us concern and then all the questions we want to ask.

Thanks so much I do understand about my diet low salt keeping to a healthy weight etc, but definitely will ask about seeing a dietitian. I just redone my original meld it wasn’t 46 it was 8 🙈sorry just trying to make sense of all this . Thank you very much.

I’ve gone from thinking I’m going to die to being a lot happier and positive xx

With results like you've had you are doing ok in the grand scheme of things, just keep doing all the good stuff and there is no reason why your liver should deteriorate further.

That 8 Meld score seems more on par with the Child Pugh A - deffo the least serious end of things.

Don't apologise for asking questions, we were all new once and sought out answers to our many queries. Better asking here where there are those with lived experiences than seeking help from Dr Google which will convince you of the worst every time.

Best wishes for your appointment,

Katie

You’re going to be fine… probably even better than ever.

There is a Confucius quote. “We have 2 lives. The second one begins when you realize you only have one.” (Such a meaningful quote)

Have a very happy 2024! 😁

Absolutely! Take good care of yourself.

I’m very sorry about your loss. I know how things can be so difficult at times. Hang in there. ❤️

That 46 score looks more like UKELD - I don't think MELD range goes that high - I think 40 is max ?

I thought that too which is why I questioned it but she'd calculated it wrongly somehow and a recalculation came to a MELD of 8.
