Yey! I finally got a fibroscan. I had been ill 2.5 years ago with hepatitis (alcohol) with some mixed confusion about cirrhosis. Doctor later said early cirrhosis.
I only had ultrasounds (no fibroscans) which now no longer say nodular contour (smooth) and now normal echogenicity. Only abnormal finding is coarse echotexture.
I finally got a doctor to do a fibroscan. Last week.
My results 10.9kpa with 6% IQR and 202 CAP. I believe this is F2 for alcohol related fibrosis?
Anyone with information or stories of improvement from such results ?
Still staying away from alcohol, eating healthy and doing lots of power yoga. I have a reignited spark to further improve this! I am getting it rechecked in 6 months. Yey!😃
I am relieved to have some kind of measurement, so I have a goal to work towards or at least some idea of if things are improving or not. It really stinks just sitting in the lurch.
Thank you! 😊

That's great news and well done on the healthy eating, that is so important. What is key is that motivation to improve and looks like you have loads of that... keep going and let us know how you get on in 6 months
I can't comment on the specifics but it sounds like you have improvement. And as you say, you now have something against which to measure further progress. Good for you! Well done.
That's great news ,I can only tell you my experience I was diagnosed with med fatty liver in april 21...I was seeing several specialists at the time I had anemia malnutrition some down to gastric bypass.I was drinking wine 🍷 a lot..
Anyway in Sept when I saw one of the specialists I asked about my scan results he asked if I drank I said no not at the moment .he said no big deal I live in Spain...long story short I went away for 6 week holiday and drank wine never more than 14 units as I thought I was ok.
Nov I had an apt another ultrasound with liver specialist who said I had cirrhosis I was shocked she also said no scarring...so I'm thinking so no cirrhosis but I was on 6 monthly check ups .I stopped the wine after my holiday and then had a little over Christmas.
Then I didn't drink from Feb until August I now was understanding the terminology used on the scans.this time great improvement. Consultant still insisted I had cirrhosis after a long debate about no scarring etc she said many stages. 🙄 I had never had a fibroscan or had even been offered one so I went private I had to know.results F1 F2 I carried on not drinking .Next ultrasound normal liver homogeneas no cirrhosis nada fibroscan F0 F1
After that F0 So yes it is possible we'll it was for me.last ultrasound June this year paid private once again normal..I feel I've got my life back .I was so glad I studied in both languages my scans and finally understood I grateful I stopped totally for 6 months in 2022 and so far all good.i eat healthy and enjoy the odd glass of wine.but that's ne everyone is different..I think I was probably F2 F3 Nov 21..Good luck.
Ps liver Consultant very happy and confirmed as well x
Hi Spiff, thank you for your detailed reply and encouragement. I really appreciate it. The doctor said F2 and sometimes F3 or early cirrhosis can be reversed. My blood parameters originally went back to normal very fast (except my platelets). My APRI has been at or less than 0.5.
My couple of ultrasounds have shown continuous improvement. I have wondered, if it can reverse, at what point is it not cirrhosis anymore ? 😳 I was rather shocked when they changed the contour from nodular to smooth Next the echogenicity went from mildly increased to normal.
I’m not sure if fibrosis/scarring can repair to only so much extent, but I want to see what I can do. I hope I am not being foolishly optimistic
Anyway, I am so happy you got such good results! That is awesome !
