Has anyone had a scan that showed a nodular surface contour but it’s NOT cirrhosis? My CT scan showed nodular liver and FibroTest says F3 fibrosis (which wouldn’t be considered cirrhosis yet?) Dr wrote cirrhosis in my chart after the CT, but after the FibroTest the nurse said I have some fibrosis and scarring in my liver. Anyway my question is can a liver have nodules from advanced fibrosis or do nodules always indicate cirrhosis?
Nodular Liver Surface: Has anyone had a... - British Liver Trust
Nodular Liver Surface
was the Fibro test a blood test?
Yes, they did it instead of a biopsy and because they don’t have Fibroscan equipment. It’s called FibroSure in the US and it’s calculated from the results of 6 different blood tests.
Yes I’ve had that test as well as fibroscan and ultrasound.
Did the results of your Fibroscan and FibroTest come out the same? I’m trying to decide if I need it or not and whether the CT is the ultimate diagnosis.
Can’t you get a fibroscan in another town?
not many hospitals have MRE so you may have to travel to a major city.
I thought nodular meant cirrohis
Usually if you have a nodular liver it indicates cirrhosis!Ultrasound can show the liver surface very well and in most cases liver nodules are a result of cirrhosis.
Have you been tested for parasites? Specifically Liver Flukes? They live inside the liver and biliary system. My husband made a simple concoction he found on You Tube made from chopped fresh garlic, lemon, honey and he added black radish which is also good for liver health. You let it ferment for a week in the fridge before eating. He started passing liver flukes and some other long 10” or 12” parasite. It was disgusting. I would imagine having these live inside the liver could cause not only scarring but also irregularities on the scan.
What the hell is this 😯
I don't know about the concoction being mentioned since there is medication for liver flukes BUT liver fluke is a very real condition that can cause liver problems, gallbladder and bile duct issues. It's one reason they ask if you've travelled when trying to work out your diagnosis - parasitic infection. It was considered in my hubbies case as during his frequent long hill walks he'd drink from mountain streams etc.
Flippin wondering if you had any symptoms to cause the test. Abnormal bloods? Jaundice, did they check the blood flow portal vein? Nodules usually mean cirhossis but could be advanced fibrosis. Being on the cusp and if early cirhossis still could potentially regress if lifestyle changes are made. If you want to truly stage your fibrosis MRE would be your best bet
hi flippin out, i have exactly the same diagnosis.
elevated LFTs 2.5 times normal
fibroscan 3.5
severer fatigue
NRH could be a cause, need a biopsy to confirm
I haven’t had Fibroscan. The FibroTest says F3 fibrosis and the Fib4 index says F2-3 Fibrosis. I have metabolic syndrome and fatty liver so normally I’d think I have some moderate fibrosis. But the CT scan says nodular surface, likely cirrhosis.
The thing that is so confusing to me is my albumin is 4.7, my platelets are 220, AST 26 and ALT 31. Bilirubin, sodium, hemoglobin etc all normal. I look really good on paper 🤣 but I feel lousy most of the time.
Do your scans show any fibrosis? If not then you possibly do have NRH. Will you have a biopsy done?
GGT 901
ALT 276
AST 210
ALP 926
My husband’s numbers…
Fibrosis Score 0.93 = F4 Cirrhosis
[ Range 0.00 - 0.21 = Normal ]
Steatosis Score 0.95 = Marked or Severe Steatosis
[ Range 0.00 - 0.30 = Normal ]
NASH Score 0.50 = F4 Borderline / Probable NASH
[ Range 0.00 - 0.25 = Normal ]
Bilirubin 3.4
Those numbers are more what I’d expect to have with cirrhosis. But I guess everyone is different. What is being done for your hubby? Did he have a biopsy to confirm?
He has not had a biopsy yet because we found out he has liver flukes and other parasites. Now the doctor wants to confirm he has parasites first (even though we have pictures of them) before doing anything invasive. Doctor says the tests aren’t that accurate and can give false negatives do he may have to do 3 tests to get a confirmation. We have zero doubt he has been passing them, at least 3 different kinds, and zero doubt some are liver flukes. We don’t know what stage his liver is in. He has lost a lot of weight. His biggest symptoms are itching and food intolerance… both of which are symptoms of cirrhosis AND parasites!
