My fibroscan showed low to moderate fibrosis last Dec. I just received a ultrasound a couple days ago and it only mentioned fatty liver. Am I reading too much into this? Was the fibroscan wrong?
Ultrasound: My fibroscan showed low to... - British Liver Trust
Ultrasound
Ultrasound might not detect moderate fibrosis. It works as designed. On the other hand fibroscan can do this (not so accurate but still).
They are two completely different tests. One gives an image the other gives a measurement of stiffness.
Together they confirm/suggest your diagnosis is correct.
Ultrasound image shows liver is not perfect and fibroscan shows some stiffness so again not a perfect liver!
Yeah I definitely knew I had a fatty liver. I was hopeful though that the ultrasound made no mention of fibrosis. Dr didn't really explain that to me at our last appointment just emphasized I needed to lose weight. I picked up the fibrosis part from the notes in MyChart. I know sometimes fibroscans can have accuracy issues.
If your bloods were indicating any degree of ongoing inflammation at the time of your initial fibroscan it's possible your kPa figure was falsly raised and falsly put you into a higher fibrosis level than accurate. Fibroscan can't tell the difference between fibrosis and inflamed liver tissue.
There is also a possibility that if you made lifestyle changes and lost some weight after your initial scan it's possible that your newer test reveals that your hard work has paid off and fibrosis has potentially reversed.
Either way both fatty liver and early fibrosis are both reversible with healthy diet and exercise so just keep on looking after yourself and hopefully you can maintain a healthy liver.
