Fibroscan VS Ultrasound for fatty liver?

mayk19 profile image

Hi all,

I’ve lost track of detail about ultrasounds vs Fibroscan. I had an ultrasound last December that showed mild fatty liver. I’ve made a lot of changes, and in Nov had a Fibroscan that showed. 3.0. Does that mean my fatty liver has gone? Or not associated?

Cheers

Hi mayk19! I have been reading back through some if your posts with interest. I saw you had liked my post do you have some background info...I'm virtually same age as you you. This pain you get where do you feel it exactly....with me it kind of feels on top of my ribs at times more so than under them.

I did have a high GGT last January when I got it tested so do understand bit different situation to you.

Hi, mine is bottom of my ribs, right side only, to my back. Occasionally down to hip bone, and across to belly button. one month in Jan it went for six weeks. Maybe different to me. There are certainly a lot of people in here with un diagnosed marked pains for a long period of time. I'm staggered by how long its taking to get a diagnosis... and how the GP fobs me off with muscle pain. The NHS should concentrate on early diagnosis and pre-emptive care, its like they want you to go away and come back when the $*(£$ has hit the fan and you have some "proper" really bad symptoms... and its too late for you...

I agree as much as I have great respect for the NHS I really do feel they are very reactive rather than being proactive. I'm sure as with anything it is about money and rather than overloading the "now" better leaving it until "tomorrow". Might stuff is down to me and I accept that. I do think if when you went to the docs if they started off by saying something along the lines of I'm not here to judge but to help, tell me the truth about your lifestyle....I wouldn't felt so ashamed.

I agree sometimes you really would appreciate a proactive approach rather than reactive! Hope you are OK BTW!

Thanks very much for your concern, it’s appreciated.... I have a new number 1 suspect tonight... I have Very high cholesterol, but BMI 25, run and ride. I’m very sure now it’s colon or bowel polyps...hopefully not progressed to worse.... next week will tell.

Damn I just wrote a reply and list it! Grrrr.....no worries on the concern front appreciate your situation. Do you think high cholesterol is a symptom of polyps then? Haven't looked it up. I asked for a FIT test and it came back negative..granted it won't show polyps. At least you are approaching it head on and getting the tests done.....me I'm paranoid and going to sit it out how 6 months see if things settle down. Keep me in the loop!

Hi Mayk19 I'm not normally nosey but as you liked my earlier message I thought I'd update myself on your health issues.

Like you my fatty liver is classed as mild at a KPA reading of 5 5 and CAP of 295 taken 18 months back!!

I too have high chorestrol at 7.8 which I'm working on to reduce again! However I'm normally around 5 7 to 6 which is still high but normal for me!

Today I also received a letter from my chorestrol consultant discharging me after online consultation a few days back plus two lots of blood tests.

Based on my life style of no diabetes, exercise and healthy eating they've decided that I require no statins after they did an online Q Risk Assessment!

Can I ask, are you under a Lipi Consultant? If not, then maybe like me your GP can refer you??

Well I'll leave you with this thought!

Hi Trish, that’s a good news story well done. Takes a lot of effort to achieve what you have done. No I’m not under a Lipi consultant. There aren’t enough problems now I don’t think - all I’m left with is pain in flank and from ribs which I’ve now been referred to a musco skeletal consultant.

Fibroscan should have given you two readings - one is the kPa score (0-75) which reveals whether or not there is any fibrous tissue. The other reading is CAP and this reveals how much fatty infiltration there is in the liver. 3.0 kPa would reveal no fibrosity but the key figure for fatty liver would be the CAP score.

Well that was pretty bloody awful 😂. But the good news Stomach and Colon all fine visually “ the Colon of a 21 year olds”. And saw my own Appendix .They took biopsies, results next week but visually all ok.

MRI scan of small bowel next Tuesday as final test... pain still bad right below ribs, back at bottom of shoulder, flank and down to right hip bone.

Almost there with tests. 11weeks no booze.

Hi, thanks. Almost ashamed to post, there are so many people here with not good news...... I’m all fine... biopsies back, final MRI and no fatty lovers anymore, no other issues, no cancer no nothing... just the pains.. so after 13 months it appears it is muscular skeletal. God knows what the nausea and other bowel issues are.. that said nausea pretty much gone

TBH - Alcohol must have started to be an issue, I’ve had a massive shock - and turned that around.. very lucky

On to find out how I can improve the constant pain now

Hope all works out well for you

Hi Mayk19

I too had discomfort pains under ribs and in my back prior to the start of my investigations which I'm pleased to say have now gone.

I also underwent Colon, bladder and stomach investigations including a few biopsies which did lead to one polyp being removed from my bladder!

The only comfort I can give you, is to say, don't give up, keep focused, exercise, eat heathly foods/drinks and hopefully in time your pains will go!

Before I go I wish you well and hope your consultant in time will source the cause of your pain!!

Take care my friend
