Hi All, just an update. I had my ultrasound on my liver and I have been told it was clear, as were my blood tests. I had already had a fibroscan a few weeks ago, after not drinking alcohol for 4 weeks, and it read 7.5kpa. I advised the consultant at this meeting that I had drank a lot of water and had lunch before the fibroscan ( as I hadn’t been advised to fast) and so he wanted to redo it and actually got a very experienced fibroscan operator to redo the test. This came back at 5.9kpa and he explained that my ribs are very close together so the earlier one could have been bouncing off my ribs and giving a higher score last time.
I do feel reassured but still not taking anything for granted. Has anyone had a similar experience and what are the thoughts about my current score, is this mild scarring or pre scaring?
Given my history of high alcohol intake, this whole experience has shocked me to to core.

A score of 5.9 kPa with normal bloods when alcohol was the potential issue would equate to F0 i.e. absolutely no fibrosis/normal liver. At the most if other conditions were in play it would reflect F1 at most which is to say very mild fibrosis (no scarring at all). Scarring is only coming into play at very advanced F3 (when it's getting towards bridging fibrosis/incomplete cirrhosis) and F4 full on cirrhosis.
It sounds like all news is good news, you've 'dodged a bullet' and your liver would now be greatful for lifelong TLC. You might want to look at the BLT advice on 'Loving your liver'. Decide whether the stress and worry you've had of late is worth any amount of alcohol going forward. Abstinence, healthy diet and all the other 'loving your liver' advice should be looked at seriously going forward.

Hopefully your consultant explained about your fibroscan score and as Katie has already said on this thread, that 5.9kpa is not a stage of any scarring.
If you have further questions or concerns we would suggest to get back to them directly as they will have your complete medical history to hand.
That's great news, hopefully you can relax a bit now. In a recent drinker the Liver can appear a bit stiffer with no inflammation markers simply because its working harder. I bet in 6months of no drinking that will go down to 4.
So, congrats, you are not dying of Liver disease. I see it all the time, people get over worried and most of the time they are no where near as unhealthy as they think they are.
