Looking for any advice please. Not sure if I need to seek a second opinion from another Gastroenterologist.
I had symptoms that could point to Cirrhosis or stages leading up to that. URQ pain, fatigue, malaise, GI issues with poor absorption (streatosis looking stools) and bloating, weight loss, shortness of breath. But after no raised LFT levels (only low B12) and after USS and CT scan and upper endoscopy told liver and pancreas and bile ducts and gall bladder fine.
I now have a lump above navel and feeling of tingling in abdomen from the navel area. feels like blood pushing into a vein. Like when get pins and needles but in slow motion. Looking at the pictures from endoscopy I see what look like a non bleeding varice in my non medical view (report made no mention of them being present or not) but Gastro said none when I asked him. My lower belly is a little round and very firm and shape spreads to flat and to flanks when I lie down. I get Orthopnea
Just with what seems like caput medusae forming I am stressed out if I have developed portal hypertension and it not being treated or any intervention taken
I stopped all alcohol 7 months ago now
Thanks

Hi, I'm very sure that the doctor would have taken it seriously if you had varices. They definitely would have flagged this up if it was the case as they would need regular check ups. I can say I've had all the similar symptoms to you last year, and the same tests and all came out OK, the more I tried to relax the more the symptoms calmed down. I'm sure alot of my symptoms were worse because I was very anxious about them
You need to think this through a little. It’s not especially likely that you could have fibrosis (scarring) of the liver so severe and so extensive that you have portal hypertension and varices - ie the blood isn’t flowing at “full speed” through the liver - but no change in liver function or blood tests or imaging is showing it - doesn’t make biological sense.
You should certainly run your concerns past your original gastroenterologist or whoever did the endoscopy but aside from that take the good news, stay off drinking, get on with your life positively and keep an eye on your anxiety - with your doctor if necessary.
In the future at some point you could go to one of the British Liver Trust “love your liver” roadshows and get a fibroscan to completely put your mind at rest but I wouldn’t rush - get on with your life and let your liver recover from whatever damage the drinking you’ve now stopped you were concerned had caused.

Hey, shoe2. Not drinking alcohol is the number one treatment for most anything harming the liver. ( If alcohol is the culprit “.
As far as the lump around naval area, I had an umbilical hernia due to pressure from ascites and other factors that weakened the intestinal wall. Just had it repaired ( No fun). Just something to think about. Hope all is well brother.
