Exhaustion

Hello, my husband has 'early child a chirrosis' he has previously had bleeding varices and he has a clot on his portal vein. This is all due to complications following a splenectomy, which caused the clot, which is turn affected the liver. He is currently working stretches of 7 days in a row, with a day off. He is not eating and is very tired. I'm sure they're linked he isn't. Any pointers? He has a consultant that he sees annually for bloods, ultrasound and endoscopy. All good for 9 years so far. I'm worried we are on borrowed time.

If he's not eating and then working 7 days in a row, regardless of his cirrhosis diagnosis he's neglecting himself and no wonder he's exhausted. Having cirrhosis though his not eating and then working long hours will no doubt be contributing to his fatigue. Proper nutrition with liver disease is essential or else his body isn't getting enough energy and he will gradually start to suffer muscle wastage as his liver will consume his muscles - heart, diaphragm are also muscles so these can be impacted as well as the usual muscles.

It doesn't sound like he is receiving the proper level of care for his cirrhosis, if he's only getting scans every year then he isn't getting the minimum that the NICE guidelines stipulate for monitoring cirrhosis - 6 monthly ultrasound, 6 monthly bloods.
