gp 10 years ago id i had a fatty liver, she addressed it to the continuing use of alupuriol for gout that was never monitored by my previous GP suggested a liver biop, alas never took place, since then i have complained of problems in my right side , lots of endoscopy investigations ct scans blood tests, until recently i have had a nissan fundlipication which has become loose and needs tightening my local hospital did not want to do the op and told me to come back in two years, the specialist was concerned my spleen was enlarged and requested an investigation the fact it had been enlarged for 10 years concerned him. had extensive blood tests including ct scan i was referred to hematologist who had bone marrow tested as well i am still awaiting a result for gaucher test , local hospital specialist requested i had a hard liver ultrasound test as she thought this could be causing blood push back into the spleen enlarging it. that test was fatty liver 350 (normal 200-250) liver stiffness 8.2 (normal 8.0) and she was surprised and had never seen this result and it did not make sense, hoping to have telephone call later this month.she mentioned cirrhosis in her letter alas i am hoping to have a holiday i suffer from post-polio type 3 have aclasia esophagus does not work, extreme fatigue and pain have spurs on my elbows from gout damaged right hand and knees they wont replace in case they cause more nerve damage can anyone advise do i have cirrhosis at present medical insurance is 339 for 2 weeks in Dubai, its easiest destination i need heat for my legs as cold is painful my wife is a schoolteacher and needs a break airline is emirates from Newcastle we can get a loan no problem as i am retired now at 66 and she needs a break but wont leave me and go alone.

Nobody here could say if you have cirrhosis or not but as long as you have declared all your health conditions to the insurance and you can pay the cost there's no reason not to go on holiday.Do shop around for quotes though!

enjoy your holiday! Your results are only just out of range, but as above only your doctors can tell you if you have cirrhosis or not.

It can cause a large spleen from portal hypertension but by then you have several other signs and symptoms too so definitely would know about it. Which it doesn’t sound like you have.

what other symptoms might one have before an enlarged spleen from portal hypertension? Couldn’t spleen/abdominal discomfort be first sign?

I never had discomfort, my belly was getting bigger though; but everything inside was swollen ( my liver was 3 1/2 times bigger than it should have been) First I knew was when I was initially admitted and had an ultrasound and endoscopy that showed the size and varices respectively. My spleen is still very big and I have been told it won’t get much smaller as it’s not an elastic organ.

But I had a lot of other symptoms too so what I said still stands, it’s unlikely imo you have anything majorly wrong with those labs and go on what your doctor says rather than some bloke on the internet 👍
