Thank you to all the replies I've had on previous posts about my partner. He is now out of hospital but on an awful lot of medication including steroids and tablets that suppress alcohol cravings. He has been diagnosed with Alcoholic Hepatitis for the second time in 2 years. I asked the consultant whether you can have re-occurring episodes and he confirmed that you can but it might be more severe each time or even fatal. Has anyone else had it multiple times as i thought it progressed to Cirrhosis? Also has anyone else taken Acamprosate for Alcholol withdrawal and does it help? Thank you ❤️

That’s great he’s been discharged. As a recovering alcoholic and now a decompensated cirrhosis patient. I understand the struggles however if one is willing and really wants it. It can be done.
As you probably know the little medication we have to take the better as the damaged liver has real difficulties processing it. Meetings and support groups or counciling are the best way to go for both the alcoholic and partner/family.
I have not taken that medication you mentioned. If he can avoid it, great!
I’m not qualified to give medical advice though.
Stay strong, keep going.
Hi, has he gave up drinking alcohol???? If he had was you told he could still get hepatitis?? Also I thought having alcohol hepatitis is cirrohis 🤷
Alcohol related hepatitis just means liver inflammation (hepa - liver, itis - inflammation) brought on by alcohol. If the inflammation is ongoing then it can lead to alcohol related fatty liver, fibrosis and indeed cirrhosis but alcoholic hepatitis just refers to the inflammation stage.
