Told PIP or actually received PIP for cirrhosis? My hubby gets PIP based on his cirrhosis and associated difficulties. He gets enhanced daily living and basic rate mobility.

Did he have a problem getting his PIP on the day it was due when he told them.

Not quite sure what you mean, we applied for Personal Independence Payment early on in hubbies diagnosis and it took ages to process. We ended up having to go to appeal tribunal on first application having gotten zero points at face to face assessment. On renewal at the end of the first award it went up to the current Enhanced Daily Living and Basic Rate mobility and that's what he's been on since and his current award runs to 2027.

You have to have the medical problem for 6 months unless the diagnosis is terminal

Hi,I live in Scotland so for us it's Adult Disability Payment (ADP).

I told them I have Cirrhosis and how it affects me everyday, for example I take Lactulose - need to be near a toilet so I'm restricted plus (sorry) it can get a bit messy!

Fatigue, night and day upside down!

The Ascites, leg edema - meds etc. Walking is very tiring, even limited distances.

Eating or lack of, no appetite.

Just anything to describe how it affects you, everyone is different.

It isn't so much the name of the condition but how that condition affects you day in day out that they want to know about.

I applied for ADP last August and got the decision at the beginning of Jan this year. I received higher in both care and mobility components.

Absolutely go for it and good luck, keeping my fingers crossed for you xx

Only just seen this, sorry!Seriously, absolutely apply for ADP.

Firstly give Social Security Scotland (SSS) a call

0800 182 2222

(Hope it is OK putting the number up for SSS 🫣).

There are 2 parts to the application, the 1st part is just giving your name, NI number, date of birth, Address etc!

The 2nd part is the actual form you fill in detailing your conditions and how they affect you, details of your meds, your GP contact/Hospital Consultant and any other imput from OT/Physio/Psych etc

The advisor should ask you if you want a paper application form sending out or tell you that you can apply on line.

I think you have 8 weeks to fill it in and send it back with any supporting evidence you might have, like hospital consultant letters, just anything you think will help to give them in order to make a consideration.

I sent them everything bar the kitchen sink 🤭

The advisors are brilliant, friendly, non-judgemental & really helpful, that's what I found anyway!

If you find it difficult to fill in forms or are struggling with it you can ask for an independent client advisor, mine came to my home to help me with my application, she was fantastic!

I'm not saying it is as easy as 1 2 3, even with all the info I sent (not saying War and Peace mind😎) which was loads, I still had an interview with my case manager regarding some of my medical problems, just to clarify how difficult things are, they also wrote to my GP for their views.

Sorry this has been so long, just wanted to let you know how I found applying for ADP through SSS.

My award is for 10 yrs, with a light touch review to see if things are the same, better or worse.

Take care for now x 🤗

So, are you on PIP already? Not quite sure what your situation is.

If you're on PIP your husband will stay on PIP even if he puts in a CofC. (He will still need to call DWP to inform of the change. (Well that was at 1 week ago when a friend tried to ting SSS) It's all nicely and clearly laid out at SSS gov website.

yes absolutely apply. My husband receives enhanced rate in both areas due to his condition and associated problems to the condition. The best advice I can give you is get letters from his specialists stating date of diagnosis, the diagnosis and the problems he has eg nausea, fatigue etc. my husbands renewal came through in 7 working days by putting in the evidence. Good luck xx

What do you mean

Hi Just for those who will at some point be in receipt of ADP from SSS.

From the yougov site.

You do not need to apply for Adult Disability Payment if you already get Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for adults from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

Social Security Scotland will move your benefit to Adult Disability Payment without you having to do anything. Find out more about how your benefit is moving to Social Security Scotland.
