Morning All,I have noticed this morning a strange smell coming from hubby.

If this strange smell is reminiscent of something stale, boiled cabbage, or garlic, it may be related to toxins from the gut not being neutralized in the liver and being released through the lungs and pores in the skin.
Hi Fibro,Yes it's could be that.
His alcohol intake has increased recently, so it could explain why he has this smell.
I have tried cleaning, thinking it was the house, but I can't get rid of the smell.

He isn't on any medication for his liver symptoms yet. He hasn't spoken with the specialist yet.His appointment has been cancelled 3 times since last year.
I get the feeling that they have given up with him because he is in denial still and doesn't want to stop drinking.
Yes it is unfortunately, I know it's too much info but my wees smell horrible when I drank
His wee smells too. It's not a sweet smell. It's stale .
I have told him he drinks this morning. Passed him clean clothes and told him to wash and change.I am in the next room if he needs help.
If he changes and washs I
Not related to liver, but then we can get other illnesses too…, If it smells like nail varnish remover , or almonds, it could be ketones from diabetes.in which case it’s an urgent trip to the GP or A&E.
Hi, it could be fetor hepaticus if it's a musty, garlic smell. I asked the same question a few years back when my hubbie was bad. Not a lot you can do about it though, I just febreezed everything... 😀including his bedding. it's the toxins trying to find an other way out. But can also be a precursor to HE, sorry. Dr put him lactulose etc and it helped a bit.
But the most urgent and important thing here is he needs to stop drinking as soon as possible. And sooner means immediately, frankly. And be on a diet for ESLD. Sending prayers...
Severe liver disease causes a sweet and musty smell both on the breath in urine and oozes out the pores, causing stinky farts as well which is another sign of the limited time left in liver failure
Morning,I managed to get him in the shower and change his clothes so I will see if the smell improves today.
I tried talking about his drinking, but fell on deaf ears again.
He was in pain after the shower with his fractured spine.
Another day, another challenge.
Thank you all. X
I reposted about the odor when I read this thread and saw some did not know and can now research that it is part of liver issues. There is not a list of symptoms that each liver patient will experience. We will all have some of them but each persons journey is unique. But knowing what to watch for helps individuals know when real serious things are going on. I have not seen anything about nose bleeds but those are very serious.
